anybody know if the father can be present at the birth if he has a cold???

wasn't sure if hospital allowed it, as they said that once my partner was back on the ward, she wasn't allowed visitors who had colds, and i have started to come down with one, and the last thing i want is to miss the birth..... she is being induced on wednesday

Yes, you can. My OH had the worst cold ever the day Luke was born and he was there.... just

if i were you i just wouldn't say anything!

keep your hands scrupulously clean, sneeze and cough discreetly into a hankie and, once your partner's back on the ward, just keep your distance from anyone else.

in the meantime, take echinacea and cold & flu tablets! and get LOTS of rest as you and your partner are both going to need it.

good luck

Just don't tell anyone. The baby is born with the mother's immunity so it won't effect LO, I really don't think you should have to miss the birth because of a cold

I can't see them objecting if actually attending the birth as thats in a room where there are no other Mums, Mums to be or babies.

But you seem to suggest its once back on the ward they are saying no to. If they have said no to visiting there if you have a cold then fair enough. Its not just your baby you have to worry about then so I'd maybe follow their guidelines. All being well your partner will only be there a few hours.

tahnx everyone, was getting a bit worried, now i can start looking forward to it again :D
