I am still waiting to be seen by a doctor, i moved house just over a year ago and never bothered to join a doctor, i found out i am pregnant a week ago and joined the doctors, i phoned today and it is still processing. i could be anything between 6 and 10 weeks gone so far. can i just find a midwife and ring myself, or do i have to wait to see a doctor? i am getting fed up of waiting around.

When I saw my GP, she just gave me the number for the community midwife for me to contact myself. Also, when I first registered there, I was able to see a doctor straight away. It takes a while for your notes to be transferred sometimes, but there's no reason you shouldn't be able to see a GP, especially given that you're pregnant and need to start your antenatal care ASAP.

I'd give them a ring, explain the situation and explain that you really do need to see someone!

The doctors round here are useless. when i went to join, i told them i was pregnant, then i phoned today and again i said i am pregnant and would really like to see someone, the woman on the phone just said " there is nothing i can do until your paperwork has gone through" then hung up on me. i am thinking of calling the hospital and speaking to them.

i just called the hospital, they said to ring my doctors and tell them i need to make an appointment to see the midwife, just called them and they are closed til 2pm, i will call back then and see what they do.

Your docs sound like me old docs, they were awful, such dragons

I hope they get this sorted, it isnt fair

my old doctors is about 5 miles away, i don't drive and don't really feel up to sitting on a bus for an hour there and an hour back, any other time i would but with the tiredness and eveything i just don't feel up to it.

just as i was typing this, they phoned me back, they are now passing my details on to a midwife and she will ring me back. hope she won't take too long

See, moaning works :D I hope she doesn't take too long calling!!
haha it sure does, i did get quite stroppy with them too  i hope she rings back fast, otherwise i will call again and pester them silly

Try asking to speak to the practice manager not some jumped up receptionist who is trying to exert the only bit of power she has in her life. Tell the practice manager you are ten weeks pregnant and then . . . start to cry, sob that you have just moved to the area and that you're concerned that the care you have received so far has been appaulling and ask is this they way things will be for the next 7 months (wailing all the time).

Only a FREAK with a heart of stone would not try to help you even if she chases up your records it might speed things up a bit!

I've found that shouting doesn't get you anywhere, sympathy vote always works  .

Ok scrap that - I've just seen your post about them getting the MW to call you back.

Well done. :D

thank you :D yeah when i say i got stroppy, i didn't lose my temper, i just made them out to be uncaring and not very good at the job they are doing and that i felt alone and scared, which i do, but i did lay it on quite thick  i had to though just to be heard. lets just hope i get a call soon, it is all happening so fast i keep forgetting to add weeks on, i might be 11 weeks gone, my stomach is a bit big for 6 weeks :D
