Can anyone help me with question about adult Ibuprofen?

Hi I have felt really ill for a few days now and think I have tonsilitis. I have been taking 2 Lemsip cold and flu tabs(with paracetamol)every 4 hours and have took some Ibuprofen aswell. I accidently took 4 lots of 800mg instead of 4 lots of 400mg of Ibuprofen on different occasions as I picked up the 400mg pack instead of the 200mg pack. So basically I took double the dose 4 times. I work as a Health Care Assistant at the hospital so I know the effects of Ibuprofen overdose but i'm not sure how much you would have to take for them to happen. Can anyone help?

if it helps... the hospital only asks you to come in if youve taken more than 8 paracetamol, i think

how are you feeling?
if it wasnt a sunday i would say ring your gp
is nhs direct open?

The maximum daily dose is 2.4g, which is the equivalent of 3 x 800mg. I'm not sure what happens when you go beyond that dose, maybe you could check with the doctors at your hospital?

I've always taken 1200mg 3x400 tabs when ever i've taken Ibuprofen, and never had any problems,
Could be because i'm a large lass or maybe the fact i've been used to alot of pain killers after surgeries and find that the 3 high dose are the only ones to dull the pain.
I agree though, ring NHS direct and see what they say if your worried babe

right- stop taking lemsip with paracetamol AND the ibuprofen . Are you getting tingly finger tips ? coz you've over dosed on pain killers

from now on forget the lemsips.

take two paracetamol and 1 ibuprofen every 4 hours.
Drink loads of water.

Get some disolvable cocodomol or paracetamol and gargle with it but don't swallow.

Hi Budge, so will gargling with Cocodamol or Paracetamol help with my tonsil pain cos i'm in agony here. When I said I took the Lemsip with paracetamol I meant the paracetamol was in the Lemsip not that I took it seperately if that is what you thought. Am I still ok to carry on taking Ibuprofen then? I was just worried because I took such a high dose before it might do damage if I carry on taking them.

yes gargel witht he disolvable painkillers. this will help with the pain,
keep taking the ibuprofen and paracetamol. If things don't clear up in a few days go to the docs for antibiotics.

i am prone to tonsilitis and i know how you feel .Try and resist going for antibiotics and let your own body fight it. But if it gets really bad go as it will never clear up .

Soluble Co codamol is the best thing ever! (if you can stand the grim taste). Budge is right, I wouldnt even rate lemsips at all, and they are minging! As for the ibuprofen thing, you have taken a bit much but its mostly an irritant to your stomach lining so if you didnt take it on an empty stomach I am sure it will be ok, give yourself a break from it for a day or so maybe till it clears your system as I am not sure how long its half life is (how long it hangs about in bloodstream for). Hope you feel better soon. Another thing, is salty water good for tonsilitis? I cant remember?
