I have been having palpatations continually since about 2pm today. I used to get them frequently when I suffered with anxiety, but I have been going to therapy for nearly a year and have been panic free for months.

I was quite calm today and then they started out of the blue. Every 5 mins or so my heart feels as though it is going to leap from my chest, even when I am lying down. My hubby had to get me from work as I was too sacred to drive home.

I rang the delivery suite this evening (that is where we have to ring to get in touch with our midwife),the woman on the phone said everyone was unavailable, but she listened to me and said that palps in pregnancy were normal as as long as I didn't have chest pain I would be ok.

I have tried listening to my hypnotherapy CD and have done calming breathing, but even when I am very very relaxed they are still coming thick and strong.

I am worried that palps for this length of time at this frequency isn't normal. Has anyone had anything similar? Am I worried about nothing?

It would mean a lot if anyone can offer any advice. Thank you!!

hun if you're this worried call them back and explain its been for 8 hours and you'd feel better being checked out

thats a shame hun, unless she was a midwife I would phone back or go in. This cant be good for you, you will be stressing yourself out.

i really dont no wat palps are but i wud ring them back and let them no ur worried about it...

I'd ring back and ask to get checked out, explain to them what you told us and say its scaring you as well.

My niece has been getting them this pregnancy too, she's just been referred to get thyroid checked and some bloods i think but has now been referred to see a heart specialist on 31st, i can't really say anymore as i haven't spoken to her, just had a brief text from her mum.

I used to get palpitations all the time, had what is call 'tachycardia' (sp?) i was on beta blockers for years for it but it cleared when i had my 1st pregnancy so i understand how you feel and it is scary at times.

If you get no joy ringing them back get in touch with out of hours doctors or see your doctor on monday, they may refer you or be able to give you something.

good luck and keep us informed how you get on

Thanks for your replies everyone

They are still happening but I am keeping myself occupied and not letting them get to me. I am going to see if I can sleep. If I can't then I am going to ring my out of hours doc for some advice.

I think it may be down to anaemia and/or thyroid, both of which have been problems for me in the past, but I will keep you posted as to what is going on....fingers crossed I wake up tomorrow and they have miraculously disappeared.

Hope you're ok hon

Bubs probably pushed all your organs out of whack...

I have never had them before but have been getting them from around 27 weeks when i am on the train or in a very warm room with little air.
I use rescue remedy and aconite 200c homeopathic remedy it really helps. I also concentrate on keeping my breathing slow and controlled...if not i feel like i might pass out or something its very weird and i have never suffered with anxiety.....another reason for palpitations is anemia....but i presume you are not anemic. neither am i . I try to think of it as the babe squashing something and it just starts to make it happen. Your not alone don't worry hun

Thank you for all your replies

I took an iron tablet last night and a beta-blocker (I am allowed to take them for anxiety if needed...I decided last night was a good time to take one) They seemed to help and I got off to sleep.

I took another iron tablet and beta-blocker this morning and I went to my first NCT class (another post in itself). The palps have been there but much less regular and concerning. I feel a lot less anxious about them now, which, I think, is another reason why they are reducing!

I am going to go to see the midwife on Monday and get her to take my blood pressure and get some advice on what she thinks is happening (I am guessing anaemia and anxiety)...so for now, I am quite calm and I can cope with them.

Thank you so much for your help and advice, I was quite scared last night, I am glad things are getting better now!

Glad you are feeling better. Hopefully some more answers or at least reassurance on Monday
