My hubby seems to think things like cribs and moses baskets are a bit of a waste of money and a money making con by shops and we should just get a cot or cotbed and put the baby straight into it but I'm a bit unsure. Obviously the cot will have to be in our room for a little while and it will fit but I can't think of any reason why a newborn cant go into a cot so maybe he's right?

well moses are only bout £30 so if u put it in the cot wud be ok and not cost too much, tbh yes they can go sstraight into cot but its the warmth is the reason for cot, but u cud swaddle baby i suppose xxx

As far as I have read they can, they may just not like it much cos it's soooo roomy compared to their previous home ;)
You could always try swaddling if baby doesn't take too well to the cot straight away.
My plan was to put the carrycot bit of the pram into the actual cot if the baby moaned cos it was too big lol x

oh and tel ur hubby not to be such a scab!!

he is in for a hell of a shock come birthday xmas easter  xxx

I know, he will be shocked! It's ok to spend a fortune on his baby, the camper van though! Men just don't get it do they? Same story with weddings lol!
We've got a carry cot but was thinking it could get damp while I'm out and about since this will be a winter baby. Might just get one while he's away next!

havent u family u cud ask to buy moses basket? thats what i done lol :smug: lol im close enough they didnt think it was cheekylol xx

My nan gave us some money so maybe use that, it's prob the sort of thing Nans would like to buy as well!

it was my nan pd for mine lol!! thatd be good cos itd mean she knows exactly what she paid for and youll use it for all ur kids, and tell oh u got it as a present lol hell be chuffed haha xx

You can get these which divide the cot so that they don't end up wriggling right up to the top where there are no covers or down under the covers - almost as much as a cheap moses basket though http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_590_10751_-1_14601_4227_10001_

Both of mine grew out of the moses basket really quickly, and we only used it downstairs (had a crib in our room) but it was actually so useful for daytime naps if I was just putting them down quickly while I got on with things when they were sleeping 10 times a day at first! And great for sticking them in on the bathroom floor when you need to have a bath  or in the kitchen when you're cooking!

We used ours for daytime naps downstairs too Sams mum! We co-slept at night and then went into cotbed after a few months when I felt happier to have him over the otherside of the room and he was sleeping through

I'd say yes you can use just a normal cot. I'd say you should go for a moses basket too though, they're perfect for putting baby to sleep in other rooms and lifting them through to bedroom, your hubby might be suprised at how cheap you can pick them up. You could always get it when he's away and say an old friend gave u it as a gift!

:oooo:

Not seen those dividers before, thanks Sams mum looks like a good option for while they are growing

Hi, my friend has lent me her Moses basket and just bought a new mattress for £10....don't know if you have that option? Any generous friends? :) xxx

OUr baby's going straight into a cot (like your OH I just couldn't see the point of the moses basket - I didn't have one when I was a baby either ;)). Absolutely nothing wrong with it so if you don't get one don't worry, it'll just be one less thing to have knocking around the house when the baby's 2 months old and doesn't fit anymore lol!

A friend in of mine put her baby straight into the cot. He was quite a big newborn and was fine in the cot. He'd have been out of a Moses basket really quick.

After speaking to another friend I have decided to get a travel cot with basinet, I'll use this for when bubs is small and in with us and obviously when bubs is too big for the basinet s/he will go in the travel cot until they're ready to go in their own room. Also means we've got a travel cot for when we need it so no extra expenditure.

I was gonna use the carrycot from my travel system downstairs for during the day.

That's a good idea ninjakitty! We visit family all over country plus camp a lot so was planning to get a travel cot anyway!

i brought a sleep safe matress for my pram and used it down stairs and had a crib for upstairs and she has only just gone in her cotbed but she was tiny and would have been in crib longer but my sis is preg and she is borrowing my crib x
