I'm currently battling with nappy rash as Austin poops so much I can't keep up with the nappy changes! For example, I fed him at five and he pooped at half five. Then at half six he pooped again, just as I got the new nappy under he had pooed again!

His poos look a good consistency, he generally seems happy in himself and I'm pretty sure its not diarrhoea because he's not dehydrated (He pees as much as he poos!)

I'm just wondering if I should be worried as it seems like a lot!

He is formula fed and I was under the impression he should poo less on formula!

I thought it was the other way around
Breastmilk is absorbed better and leaves less waste products
(i think)

My lo is ebf and before weaning he would poo after every feed. My friends baby is formula fed and he would poo between once or a few times a week so it does sound a lot to me. I would keep a close eye on how much weight he gains and if he stops gaining or losing weight I would go to the gp.

My DD went through a phase of "one in one out" for a long time! Ie after every feed she pooped. She was ebf so this was really quite frequent!

It did lessen eventually an she now poops just once a day...usually after breakfast. I think it's normal tbh but like TTT said keep an eye on weight gain and maybe pop to HV or GP for advice. Xx

Thanks ladies - I had him weighed on Wednesday and he was up from birth weight of 7lb 14oz to 9lb 7oz in three weeks so he's doing well. May get him weighed again this week to keep an eye on it!

It's breastfed babies that may poo less than formula fed babies. Keep an eye on the consistency, if it's watery it could be diarrhoea. Also check for other signs of dehydration eg sunken soft spot, lack of tears etc. Have you changed anything recently eg brand of formula? I would probably check with the health visitor to be on the safe side xx

My little girl would do poonamis 6/7 times a day, until she was weaned at 6 months. She was end, and I panicked endlessly,as I had friends whose breastfed babies went days between poos. But, it was normal for her, and that's the key- if your little one has always been the same, it's unlikely to be anything to worry about, especially if weight gain is good, and it's not frothy or pale.

My little girl is now 2.8, and recently potty trained, and a grown man would be proud of the huge turds she produces! She poos once a day now, but they are enormous- she obviously just produces a lot of poo! :)

By the way, Metanium is fantastic stuff. Clears up nappy rash in no time. X
