Ok, i will be having a caeserian.
Can anyone tell me what happens right from the beginning.
Do you have to have an epidural to numb you? What do you have to numb you and what is the pain like after and how long is it before you are motive again?

I can not have a vaginal so i need all the answers i can get.

Thankyou. :D

If you Google cesarean section step by step you get plenty of results on it and even a photo step by step (not for the faint of heart though)

I really do think its something you should ask your Doctor/consultant about it, as each hospital will have its own procedures and set up and can tell you what your hospital does and so on. Every persons experience will be slightly different. I know there are standard things to be done, but every woman is different and what might apply to one doesn't always apply to another.

Also try this link http://pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/p/cesarean.htm

Really, one for the professionals I think :) Its a medical procedure so I'd rather hear it from the horses mouth so to speak, if it were me.

:) Hi,

I agree - your m/w and consultant will be able to give you details of how the proceedure is done at your hospital.

I had an emergency c/s with my first. Had an epidural (some places give you a spinal if it is an elective) and a catheter (don't remember either hurting but there again I was more concerned about the contractions at that point). My partner was allowed into the theatre but was advised that if they had to put me out he would need to leave; they put a screen up so we couldn't see what was going on!!! It was a very surreal experience; when my little girl was born I didn't actually notice until my partner said "is that our baby crying".

Obviously was numb for the rest of the night; they got me up in the morning and made me walk around a bit but in the early days I was very weak (due to 3 days prev labour and higher than average blood loss) and found it quite difficult even to get up. Did manage to bf with help though.

I will say that the ladies who had electives seemed to recover much quicker than me - were walking around much better than me earlier, and went home a day early. A friend of mine has had 2 electives and had no major probs.

Takes about 8 weeks to get back to normal! Everyone says about the pain but they give you good pain relief, and to be honest, I was in much more pain after a natural!!!!! It's just harder to do things at the beginning.

All the very best, you'll be fine
