c- sections should defo just be there for emergencys.. nhs need to spend there money on something else! its bad enough that my hospital shut down there scbu a while back and in march there closing the labour ward to!

Agree, what a massive waste of money. The nhs is so short of cash at the moment, I'm really surprised at this news. If you're too posh to push bloody pay for it yourself and book into the Portland! x

I just watched a debate about it on C4 news and I wasn't convinced by the pro argument. I really don't want a c section and the associated recovery. However I feel like I'm being pushed in that direction by the hospital. Anyway its a long story, I think I'll start a thread about it because I really need some help with this one.

I am planning a vbac if I get pregnant again. They can f@ck off if they even attempt to mention a section to me x

Not looking forward to having my c section. Not scared of the surgery itself just the recovery but I have been advised that it's best for me and babies. However I will be asking a few more questions when I go to consultant next to see if it really is the best option.will need loads of help with 2 babies and not being able to lift etc x

I had an emergency one and it wasn't as bad as I thought but I certainly wouldn't choose it if I could have a natural birth xx

Sometimes the recovery isn't too bad! I had an elective section because they thought my LO was over 12lbs and I felt like I was being robbed of a natural birth, even though the consultant told me it was safer in case LOs shoulders got stuck.

Anyway, I was really scared, mostly about the recovery like you are, and it was really fine. As soon as I had the feeling back in my legs, the MWs encouraged me to get out of bed, have a wash etc which made loads of difference. Then the next morning they told me I could leave at 6pm! The drive home was agony going down rough road surface, and that night was painful, but I woke up the next day feeling fine! Took my painkillers for 5 days then stopped because they hadn't given me enough and the pain was just a bit achey, but not at all unbearable, I've had much worse period pains!

I know everyone is different and some people have really bad pain, but I was lucky, and you might be too! As long as you take it easy lifting LOs shouldn't be too bad, just don't go weight training at the gym or anything major!

xx

I've been given a choice...........and I've opted for a C section.

I have Lupus/RA/Raynauds and at the moment my flare ups are coming regularly and badly leaving me with painful joints, skin rashes and incredible exhaustion.

As discussed with my doctors a long labour would not be beneficial to either me or Bubs, but they were willing to let me try if I really wanted to.

It has taken me considerable thought and research to reach this decision and I do not believe I'm 'taking the easy option'.

I have to have a c-section, this will be my 4th and im dreading it if i had my way i would of chose a natural birth any day. I definatly would not choose to have one xx

I had an EMCS, the next day or 2 weren't the most pleasant but from then onwards it was absolutely fine nothing to worry about.

This time I'm opting for a VBAC. Don't really like the idea of post-op complications especially as I'm a bit overweight. Also think it'll be easier to breastfeed.

Lots of reasons people may chose a C-Section. The same way lots of people chose to have surgical procedures done under general anaesthetic every day even though it can be done under local cheaper and easier. I don't see why women should get the bad rep.
If this were another operation say a hernia repair, and you were told it could be done without anaesthetic but you'd get the same amount of pain as a labour, plenty of people (especially men) would opt to be put out and nobody would judge and no surgeon would refuse.

To me having a C section would be something i would only do if it was an emergency (obviously) and its my worst fear that i would have to be cut open!
If you give birth naturally yes it hurts (understatement but ive never done it lol) but once its over your not left with a wound or scar across your belly, Your body naturally heals and you go back to normal in a few weeks... But with that you can be bed ridden and get infections and be in pain for the whole time it takes to heal... Plus your left with a large scar...i would rather get the pain over with!
I think that if these women want a c section for non medical reasons they should pay for it themselves, I would like a bit of liposuction but i wouldn't expect the NHS to pay for it- because its a selfish operation which is purely for looks nothing to do with my health.
