C sec recovery experiences

Gillyboos- I was told to take the dressing off the day after section as the air needs to get to it to heal. I would recommend taking it off in the shower though as much easier when wet. I ended up with sticky stuff left on me for weeks after and had to slowly keep rubbing it off. X

Bloody hell, I've had it on a week tomorrow/today. The Dr checked it Monday and never mentioned removing the dressing. I'm a little scared of what's underneath tbh!
Thanks for the reply. Xx

I had my elective section 4 weeks ago yesterday. Feeling completely normal now. Was more sore on my right side after a week or so but was told that was due to a build up of scar tissue from last section and trying to heal. Was given Co-codemol from gp which helped and stopped doing as much and trying to rest which is difficult in itself with a newborn and toddler! Lol

My dressing was taken off on day 5 and I had the disolveable stitches. I did notice about 10 days after getting dressing removed that a bit of the stitches were poking through my wound at the left side. GP trimmed it down and explained that there will be more of the stitches on that side as that is where they started.

Had lots of plain baths with tea tree in which I swear by to help the healing. I was back driving after 3.5 weeks. Xx

Wouldn't worry about it Gillyboos as every area has different guidelines was just what midwives advised when I was in hospital as apparently it heals quicker once the air gets to it and is harder to take off the longer it has been on.

I would really recommend if you are going anywhere or if the weather is warm then to put a clean maternity pad against the wound as it soaks up any discharge from the wound as well as any sweat. Something one of the midwives at the hospital recommended to me as I was up on my feet a lot quite quickly after my section. X

How are you getting on Louise?

Still got this bloody painful area but ibuprofen is helping. I've got a honeycomb dressing over dissolvable stitches and I'm not sure when I'm meant to take it off, no one has mentioned it!! X

Good day today it seems but I'm wary as that is probably going to mean tomorrow is awful!! I feel really good today, pain is minimal, but I always feel I have to walk around holding my hand over my tummy though. Today is the first day I've managed a 'painless' cough, but I know by bedtime I'll be sore and shattered; cannot believe how much it is taking out of me as the day goes on, but I am in such a better place at this point compared to my last delivery (vaginal, forceps, 3rd degree) so overall feeling really positive.

That burning area is really persisting though and is very annoying more than anything. Hoping it passes with time!

How are you doing Gilly? Coupled with the babies to take care of, you must be shattered?!?! xxxx

It does vary from area to area gilly as I had mine changed after 48 hours and was told to remove it again in another 48 hours and I had my scar checked for almost 2 weeks by midwives as I was staying in the neonatal unit they kept an eye on me. I'm almost 20 weeks pp now and it's hardly visible. I was scared to see mine but my oh was impressed how small it was ( he took both my dressings off as I was terrified lol) xxx

I took it off yesterday and the mw checked it as I think I'm getting a bit neurotic about it! haha. I've looked at it and it looks fine, just a bit swollen and pink which is expected. I've popped a maternity towel over the area and had it air drying last night. I'm desperate to put some sort of antiseptic on it but just following midwife's orders at the moment. Pain is better but I'm finding rest hard, with the twins and a 16 month old AND hubby's help I'm still pretty busy. I do find if I sit for too long I ache, but then if I move too much I ache...bit of an awkward one.
Feeling better hearing about everyone else's positive recoveries and knowing how it feels is totally normal. x

Oh gosh does sound hard hun. I was lucky in the fact I got plenty of rest as lily was in nicu to gain weight and my son stayed with grandparents who helped out alot. I say rest but I was up every 2 hours expressing and did a trip to a walk around monkey forrest 6 days after it did kill me though. I found when I got back to my own bed it helped. I also stopped breastfeeding when we got home as supply didn't like pumping too much! We use a nutri prem formula the gp prescribed as she was so little. Here's a pic of me almost 20 weeks pp after my twin pregnancy . I haven't done any exercise bar walking so still need to shift a bit of excess but just so you can see. I haven't got an pics to compare from earlier on really.

And my scar now

Excuse the stretch marks there better than they were lol xxx

Thank you for the pictures, that calms me a lot!!! I'm expressing but supply is rubbish so we are topping up with Nutri-prem 2 as well. Your scan looks so well, I'm really impressed at how faint it is. You look fab.
I'm terrified of overhang, worried the twins stretched me to my limit. But that's a bridge to cross then I guess. x

Wow! Your scar is almost invisible!!! You look fab!! I am hoping I am as lucky; currently feel like I am about to have a coughing fit every ten minutes which is so uncomfy for my bladder; I'm terrified! But definitely feeling better day by day xxx

My overhang is getting less and less I've still got a bit of one but like I say I've done nothing to tone up yet. Plus I've ate rubbish lol. My friend at work told me to wear high waisted trousers and ice found that's really helped put everything back into place while my muscles have been healing. One thing I didn't realise was that it's stays slightly numb around your scar for a long time after. I panicked think my skin was dying but my mum who had me via c section reassured me it's perfectly normal xxx

Just read this thread. I'm finding it really difficult. Today is a bad day for me, feeling some constipation pressure and headache all day. That's really helpful jj mum. I have found I have to sleep sitting up on the sofa . It's the only comfy position. Im feeling really anxious about the house, my sister has been a god send keeping on top of hoovering etc. I know k shouldn't worry but don't want things to get too behind! Silly isn't it! Xx

I also spoke too soon today. In agony this afternoon and done nothing to cause it. That burning pain has spread somewhat and also have throbbing back pain. Went to docs who said everything was fine. Am just sitting on the sofa in tears wondering how I'll come when hubby goes back to work next week and I have my toddler to look after.....

How much longer have you got hubby home for? How is the pain now?
My wound has been bleeding today, going to get the midwife to look at it tomorrow. x
