I know its super early, and lots of people get freaked out about this sort of thing. But has anyone purchased anything for their baby this early? I've seen some good deals around but can't help but feel its bad if I brought anything at only 6 weeks pregnant!

i waited till i was 20 weeks i didnt believe i was pregnant with no symptoms etc and i have had bleeds so i didnt want to jinx anything.

my OH bought me 2 pandora charms both baby boy related and i dont want to put them on until i have him in my arms so i dont jinx anything

I don't believe in jinxing. However you might want to consider how you would feel about the things you bought if something went wrong.

We were ttc a long long time, I was quite down about it all and so a year ago I decided I would buy one small baby item for each cycle that passed. I had rules, I went for an item of clothing that I really liked in a unisex design and a random size, preferably in the sales! I decided that if we got lucky I would have spread the cost a bit and got a few things I really liked. If it never happened I thought it would be useful as a way to get closure by donating it to a charity when I could.

I've always been a bit of hoarder when it comes to baby clothes, as soon as we started ttc our first I couldn't help but buy clothes so by the time I knew she was a she I had a few items for either sex. Once I knew was sex she was I let myself by whatever I wanted lol. We told our immediate family at about 8 weeks and they were just as bad, my SIL kept emailing saying 'you should get this' and I had to keep saying 'not yet' to things like baby baths! X

Generally I don't buy until 12 weeks but I did buy a full set of nursery furniture at 4 weeks pregnant with my second child... it' was on a local selling site £50 for matching mamas and papas cot bed, chest of drawers with changing table and baby's wardrobe. Best bargain ever, I really couldn't pass that one by! Whether you buy things or not isn't going to affect the outcome of your pregnancy, it's just more how you would feel f the worst happened and you were then left with a load of baby stuff, would that upset you? If you have somewhere like a spare room that you can stash it away until it's needed then I don't see a problem if you find a super bargain! Xx

With my first i had the pram by 12 weeks. She was fine. My second i already had everything from the first xx

PB are you getting private gender scan done? Won't be long til you can find out!

Well I'm being scanned at 16 weeks for the bleed on uterus (hopefully might have to rearrange it)... I'm not sure if NHS scan will tell gender on that scan.Although I'm not sure they'll be as accurate as a private... if not I'll be booking in straight away heh.

Probably depends on the scanner PB, all my 20 weeks scans I've felt like NHS are pretty non commital and would prefer not to tell you but do if you ask. But then I've always already known due to a 16 week private scan. Certainly a private scan they do their absolute best to be in no doubt whereas NHS take more of a 'if we see it I can tell you but if I don't have quite the right position I'm not going out my way.' X

Ooh waiting until the gender scan is a good idea! I am having an early private gender scan :)

i doubt the NHS will tell you at 16 weeks, they dont even write it down for you anymore incase they are wrong.

i waited till my gender scan before i went out and bought anything even then i was scared too, still not bought everything i need yet lol

I'm getting the private sex scan hopefully. I went with my second and it was so much better. The image quality (2d normal scan) was amazing.

I was told at my 20 week NHS scan, I didn't have to ask she just asked if I did want to know, she was very certain it was a boy (his bits were very obvious!) I'm sure if they are unsure they wouldn't say so but sometimes it's very obvious xx

The NHS woman was so rude at my scan last time. she did say 'i think its a girl' but couldnt be sure. So i went private, i will this time too at 16 week xx

My NHS hospital won't tell you, so if you want to know you have to pay.

If all goes well probably I'll have as well a private gender scan around 16-18 weeks . I just think is a long time to wait from 12 weeks until 20 weeks without checking all is fine.
