My oh's mum just rang, she's been to visit her friend who had twins yesterday tonight an the wards are soo busy, she knew one of the midwives so was chatting to her an apparently if u ring up in labour they're sending people to Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool etc all quite far away coz they and surrounding places are so busy. But she told MIL on the quiet that if we just turn up they're not allowed to send us away?! I'm dreading it coz I know if we just turn up they will probably be all arsey. Im probably just stressing over nothing but oh dear god I'm starting to worry about anything happening now!

Mini panic attack over! Xxx

I remember when i went into labour, when i got there they said that i will have to wait to be seen as they were so busy.. she could see i was contracting litrally constantly so she examined me quickly and was 10cm, so glad she decided to examine me other wise i would of had her in the waiting room..

Also was very lucky as brooke was born early she had to go to special care and she had just taken the last place, all other babies that needed special care were sent to other hospitals..which would of made the experience 10x worse.

try not to worry it could be busy 1 day and empty the next the labour rooms are used for just labour your then moved onto a ward, they told my mw i couldnt be admitted to labour because they was busy and lo and behold 2 hours later i was in a delivery room and they didnt seem overly busy when we was leaving at 10pm i seen another empty delivery room so there was at least 2 rooms free that i knew of x x

like the others said it changes all the time. i went for a tour and they said they were quite busy but only 2 rooms out of 10 were being used. its more the wards afterwards but they should be clearing people out aslong as no problems within 6 hours so again by the time you have gone through all of labour and had baby there should be a continous circle. xxx

I'm lucky where I am. When I went on maternity and delivery suite tour - there was only 1 in 12 labour rooms in use! They encourage you to stay just one night and you stay in your own labour suite overnight so no wheeling through to a ward after you give birth! If you do want to stay more than 1 night to establish breastfeeding or c section etc, you go through to your own private room! The wards (with only 2 beds in) are for ladies with complications and assessments in pregnancy. There is also a seperate neo natal until which afain had only 2 babies in when we were there. It all sounds soooo wonderful until they tell you there is NO EPIDURAL SERVICE!!!!! Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh

I wouldnt panic hun. when i was in hospital the labour ward got closed to admissions due to it being extremely busy. They were sending the planned inductions home if they were showing no signs of natural labour that was on the Sat night then by the Sunday afternoon they were open again as they had cleared the labour ward.

When i asked the midwife about this on Sat she said if that has to happen which is not very often they ring the other hospitals and find out who has space and then when you phone to say you are on the way they send you to one of the hospitals they know have room.
I think this is good that they find out where has space and they dont just try to overcrowd the labour ward and like she said they only do this if they feel they cant give the care a woman deserves.

The hospital i am due to go to do the same as others where you go in and are given a room with a en suite and you stay in this room till you have had the baby. (unless you have to have a epi and your in the home from home room)
You can also go home after 6 hours if there is no complications and this is from the delivery room. If you are staying in you go to the ward.
So the labour ward gets emptied pretty fast.

Thanks everyone! I just had a bit of a wobble when she rang an told us! MIL is quite a worrier herself. I just went for my sweep and asked the midwife about it and she said it was realllly busy yesterday but they try clear people out as fast as poss if people have no complications, not to worry, an just play it by ear.

As long as everythings ok, baby is feeding ok etc then they aim to get ladies out in 6hours!

I have to stay in for 3 days.
But i remember after having my daughter she didnt feed for 12 hours as she just slept (apparently labour is very tiring for baby). and on day 2 she "forgot what the boobie was for lol" so it was nice to have the midwife on hand for advice

Yeah like the other girls say don't worry. The day you go into labour, you could be the only one or there may only be another few people. The hospital don't know when people will go into labour so they have probably just had a busy few days. X

I would thank u all for replies with the thank button but I've downloaded that tapatalk thing on my phone an I haven't got a clue how to do it on here! Thanks though, feel better about it today an after speaking to my midwife... I'm sure it will be fine! Xxx

i was out in 2 heidi i dont know if they let 1st time mums out this quick though

Yeah the midwife said at least 6hours with first if theres no problems but u can ask to stay longer if u don't feel confident enough! Fingers crossed there's lots of 2nd or more time mums who are happy to go home if everythings ok!!

Xxx
