Hi,

I've been told numerous times that babies become more efficient when feeding and finish much quicker. When in your experience does this tend to happen? Sophie easily takes half an hour if not more, she's only 5 weeks at mo though

I'm not sure I quite understand the question honey? If I'm reading it correctly are you saying that BF babies tend to finish feeding much quicker than bottle fed ones? My son is bottle fed & depending on what level teat he is on he can finish a feed after 10 minutes

Both my girls became much more efficient at breastfeeding from around 8 weeks. They went from taking 30/45 mins to feed to feeding within 5/10 mins.x

My son took until around 3 months. My daughter is 8 weeks and she's already getting quicker. It depends on the baby and other things.

Ok, thanks :) will wait and see then! I think she just messes at the end of a feed- gets all fussy and doesn't latch as well

It does get quicker, to the extent that sometimes I wonder if he has had enough! My boy is just 4 months now and is such a fast feeder. You will get there, and it gets easier! It has been a gradual speed up, I didn't realise until a few weeks ago when I did a feed in about 10 mins!

Thank you :) whenever I want to go out I think about here being somewhere for me to go for a good half hour to feed her, be good when it's quicker :)

For us it was about 6-7 weeks. Though he's not a typical breast feeder, he never comfort sucks, doesn't cluster feed and will spit boob out the second he's had enough. He will point blank refuse boob unless he's the one asking for it and he's genuinely hungry. He knows how to get his dinner and he likes to do so as quickly as possible and leave the table lol. NOTHING like my first who fed 18 hours a day!

Little Marcie tends to feed for about 10-15mins max. Spits boob out as soon as she is done and uses it as a pillow lol. She has prob fed for 45 mins on 2-3 occasions. Let's me know when she wants more doing the head bobbing.

Apart from the fact that our little man has always been a fast feeder, he is exactly the same! Spits boob out, and will scream if I try to feed him when he doesn't really feel like eating.

I have come to the conclusion that this is why they don't sleep. I think if they we're cluster feeding and getting a good Bach of calories over the evening the would go a lot longer at night rather than treating us as a 24 hour service station lol.

Took a few months for us but they definitely get more efficient - it will happen lol.

I used to have to sit on sofa with Bee with both boobs out.... All very glamorous. Feeding out was hard work in the early weeks but it does get easier.

Thanks for responses everyone, some of you are lucky to have babies who feed and finish, Sophie would stay on all day if she could but I think when she's done she's very fussy and on and off... Although had a green poo today which may suggest she's not getting enough hind milk?? How, I do not know!!

Have a read on Kelly's Mom website. But the hind milk thing is a bit of a red herring....

Yeah I know it's not true having foremilk and hind milk, just gets fattier right? Just wondering if there's a point she struggles to get it as has to work too hard for it?? I'm a ftm so don't know!

Sometimes green poo is just green poo. We had quite a bit back in the beginning but it was fine eventually. If you aren't sure keep a nappy to show your health visitor but as long as it isn't consistent for a long time it should all be ok. X
