I have a question regarding breastfeeding alongside giving purees. Brendan is now 6months (well, he will be on friday, argh!!!!) and we have started giving him some pureed food for lunch and dinner.

I breastfeed him first, then top up on a little puree. When you wean them, how much does their breast milk intake go down?? Cos Brendan is taking less breast milk, he used to have 20minutes worth of milk each feed, now he takes about 10-15 minutes. We only give him a small amount of pureed food.

I just have no idea, being totally clueless never seems to improve haha.

Thanks girlies! :)

We were doing baby led weaning but the idea is still the same: milk first then food until at least 12 months (some countries its unlit 2 years), as milk is much more nutritious. It's really just for textures and tastes before 1 anyway. I didn't feel that LOs milk intake decreased at all in those first few months, she only really started eating more and suckling less at about 12 months.

It is very difficult to tell whether they are actually drinking less milk just by the suckling time (he might have just become much more efficient at it and is actually getting about the same in less time). I wouldn't worry too much, you seem to be doing the right things, milk first, not trying to give him too much etc. so just carry on and if he's happy then its obviously going just fine :)

Thank you!!!! Yeah we are giving him very little puree and I am focusing on the breastmilk, as it is much more benefit too him!! Like you have said, he might be getting much better at taking milk, its kinda frustating cos you cant see how much they take. The milk defo comes first!!
