Sorry i've only just posted a thread a minute ago then realised I also meant to ask about another worry I have.

When I was 17 I had to have an operation to have a breast lump removed and in order to do this they had to lift off my nipple and stitch it back on (TMI i know - sorry!!!) Well consquentely my nipple is very sensitive around where I had the stitches and has also been inverted ever since. I can use a suction cup that I have to lift the nipple out but it only stays out for a very short time before it goes back in. Do you think I will be able to breast feed? Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm sure you will be able to bf - our antenatal bf counsellor said that it doesn't matter if you have inverted nipples - maybe ask your mw for advice Hun xx

I have one that is inverted and also got this worry, but i've been told it shouldn't make a difference as they suck on the whole of the nipple? ! I think anyways? I'm gonna bring it up with the MW closer to the time but I to have this worry so you're defo not alone. If I find out anything, I'll let you know xx

A baby might find it harder to latch onto an inverted nipple but most find a way. I was told that some women's inverted nipples are 'fixed' by BFing. Your midwife should be able to refer you to a specialist before your LO is born, your inverted nipple is probably complicated by the fact that it was caused by surgery. You can always just breastfeed with the other nipple and express from the other. Good luck!

Thanks girls, you have made me feel a bit better knowing i'm not alone on this one. I think I will ask nearer the time. Thanks again for all your help xx

Babies do feed successfully from breasts which have inverted nipples - remember the clue is in the title and babies feed from the breast, not the nipple :) (I always try and imagine boobs like a teapot - all the milk is stored in the body (breast tissue) and the nipple is just the spout that directs the milk outwards). If your local area has a breastfeeding counsellor/support group go along and get as much info as you can before baby arrives, and don't be afraid to ask the MWs for help. Good luck!

yep, ive heard this too, inverted nipples dont cause any worry the baby latches around the areola and creates a seal x

Thanks everyone, I have an anti natal class in a few weeks which is specifically about breast feeding so I think i'll ask then.

Thanks for your help x
