obviously i need a mattress but which one.. foam? sprung? etc?

and what bedding will i need?

im planning on using a growbag for my baby, can i use them from birth?

im having a winter baby will i need to cover the babys arm wiht a sheet? or will long sleaved sleepsuits do that for me?

god i sound so stupid but i really have no idea

I am glad you have asked this as I have the same questions!!!

I look forward to reading the responses!!!!!!!!

It all depends on what the room temp is. Ive bought a grobag that you can use from birth, but ive never used one before

Sheets are the best things to use for baby and the sheets with the holes in that they use in hospitals. I put a couple of sheets on zack in his mosses basket and tuck them in so they cant go over his head. You can always add another or take one away, depending on if baby gets hot or cold.

As for the mattress they do some great ones in mothercare, I dont really know how to advise on them as my mum bought zacks and unborns.

thanks violet, are the sheets they use in hospital "cellular" or something like that?

You can use the gro-bags as long as baby's head can't slip through the neck hole, but I used sheets for Maddie when she was first born. Also, her arms did feel cold when I first used the sleeping bag, which concerned me, but the HV said as long as their chest feels warm then baby's fine.

Re. mattress, my main recommendation is to get a waterproof mattress protector - essential to protect the mattress for all those times baby's sick in the night! As far as the mattress goes, don't be pressured into buying the most expensive type unnecessarily. But if you're thinking of using the cot as a bed when baby gets older, then it's probably worth investing in a fairly decent quality one. Mothercare do a good range.

Hope that helps!!

thanks hunny, its just a cot not a cotbed, so its literally till i needs a bed.

iv used a little sleeping bag on Jamie as he is a bugger when it comes to kickin off his sheets but we have to check the room temp so as not to overheat him!

yeah cellular blankies are used alot so air can circulate!

have u got a moses basket to put LO in first Lozzijane or will they go straight into a cot?

Hi Lozzi
I bought a grobag for when Olivia was a newborn (0-6months winter tog) but she was one of these babies that like to be swaddled. She settled so much better when she was tightly wrapped up in a blanket and didn't go into the grobag until she was about 8 wks old (it was at this point she resisted being swaddled so I thought she must have stopped liking it now!)

I used the cellular blankets to swaddle her.

I really recommend one of these instead of snowsuits. It costs £25 but lasts from newborn to 6 months and it's great for using with the car seat when newborns are so tiny. http://www.bettacare.co.uk/acatalog/Babynomade_Wraps.html

moses basket first, how long can i keep my baby in the moses basket for?

i think its at least 3months, im not sure??

suppose it also depends on how big baby is! Jamies gonna b out of his soon, hes started thrashin around in it so might put him in his cot sooner?

hopefully another mummy can tell us how long to keep LO in basket for!
