Hi , I would like to breastfeed my next baby

I always had trouble with babies in special care or using a feeding tube so I have never really managed to do it!

next time I might find it all works fine, but I like to be ready, so incase it happens like the others , I still want to give them my milk and perservere more with the breatsfeeding when babies playing the game!

What bottles and teats would you all recomend to use when trying to feed expressed milk that were as like a breast as could be so I could keep trying and not cause problems jumping from breast to bottle?

Can this be done successfully? what bottles / teats do you recomend?

Thanks lots Jenni X

I cant really help but it was a question I was wondering myself. I want to breast feed for as long as I can but the she'll be with her dad some of the time so he'll have to use bottles...Ive already brought tommee tippee closer to nature ones (they came in a set) but would be interesting to find out if there are some good ones for going inbetween. Sorry I couldnt be of help though! :)

I like the Tommee Tippee Closer to nature ones, they're meant to mimic the breast and look breast shaped :)

Yeah I had seen thos, nearly got some in Morrisons as they had a big sale on, but read some reviews online that said they leek and teats get stuck depressed, you ever have that with yours?

I know some people wouldn't rate them but the reason I love them is my lil man went completely off his bottle and I tried EVERY bottle for months and this was the last choice and he loved it :)

I had no leaking problems with them x

I used TT Closer to Nature to feed Rosie expressed milk after a few weeks as recommended to me and she was fine going between bottle and breast. I really liked the shape of them too :)

Personally I think they are all a big gimmick. My LO was BF for 12 months and I bought all sorts of bottles that claimed to be closest to breast feeding.....the ones she liked best were the Avent regular bottles with normal teats. I think the baby will decide so my advice is dont buy lots of any! Just buy one or two that you like the look of and see if baby takes to them. Then if they dont, you havent bought half a dozen bottles that lets face it, arent cheap.

All that said you really dont want to introduce any type of bottle too soon. BFing is a learned skill and much harder than feeding from a bottle. Imagine just learning how to eat with chopsticks then someone telling you you can eat with your hands....you'd tell them where stick their bloody chopsticks!! so if you want to be successful with BFing, dont go near a bottle for the first month minimum. I made the mistake of trying too soon (10 days in) and we had to go through 48hrs of hell getting her back to the breast.

Thanks girls , I see your point, we only ever used Avent before. I guess it's too easy to jump to the bottle at a trying time when breastfeeding is not working rather than sticking at it.

yeah perhaps I will find out exactly what I like, and where you can get them, and write a picture based list for my OH incase he needs to fly out and get them, but not buy anything, that way I can try harder at it without giving in.

Thanks girls X

I breastfed for seven months and at from 6 weeks used a bottle for the evening feed (used expressed milk until 3 months old and then mixed half formula and half breast milk). I agree with Mervs mum - Harrison had no probs mixing bottle and breast but he had done 6 months breast by then. I used the Tommee Tippee bottle and had no problems at all with them.

Hope this helps
Karen xx

I bought Tommee tipee closer to nature ones too, the whole set was half price in tesco so I thought..why not, got the breast pump and microwave steriliser too. Havent used it yet, and will wait as long as possible but I've had problems with chronic fatigue in the past and if I have a relapse after LO is born Im going to need to rely on my OH some of the time. Our first plan of action is to get him to pick up LO and bring him to me to breastfeed but sometimes in life you've just got to roll with the punches!

i didnt breastfeed but am using the TT closer to nature bottles. i love them. my SIL is using aventand she finds them leaking my TT ones have never leaked yet.

and p.s. the TT microwave steriliser is in tesco atm for 10.99 its soo handy i wud highly recommend it xx
