Anyone else getting bored of antenatal classes? I don't know if it's just me and my classes but I've got a great group, we have 8 classes over 6 weeks and just had lesson 3 this morning. I just feel that were not really covering that much and what she does tell us I already know and often know in far greater detail than she's shared with us. I honestly wish someone had told me months ago not to bother with classes if I even had half a clue, I'm sitting there getting bored with it - I'd most certinally not do them again if a second child happened to come along.

Gosh 8 class's. I only have 4 last one on Tuesday. I found the first one boring and didn't want to go back, but my Oh made me, i am glad i had as they are getting better.

Class 1 was pretty bad but hey new groups, shyness, not knowing what to expect etc. Class 2 was ok but agian learned nothing new, class 3 today was a waste of time...talked about baby equiptment and how it's all a waste of money apart from the cot and "perhaps" nappies!! Here's hoping class 4 on Wednesday is a zillion times better. I'm only continuing going as it's a nice group of people and fingers crossed we'd start socialising after classes end too.

im kinda glad ours was all in one day- OH was quite bored, i doubt he would have gone to more than one

DH asked this morning why we couldn't just have an all day and get it out of the way type thing. I said I guessed different places/areas just done things differently. I think I'd have prefered just one longer class knowing what I now know.

The only part of the class i would personally want to attend is where they do the breathing and positions for labour, the rest of it i knew already when i went to classes.so dont feel bad nicola, i agree they are a bore! Walked out through mine as DH and me were literally snoring and he kept dsaying to me you already know this!

yeah, I seem to know most of the stuff in more detail than the teacher!!

It's weird how many people in the class don't know things though. for many of them the words 'episiotomy' 'show' 'forceps' and 'ventouse' meant absolutely nothing!!!

I'm so glad Im not the only one who's finding them (or has found them) boring, I don't know when we'll get around to doing labour positions and breathing (I want to do that!) but the talks on baby items we might or might not need is pointless, the options for pain relief are so straight foward really, gas/air, pethadine, epidural etc but some people seemed amazed that these things were on offer....I don't understand how you can get to 8 months pregnant and be completely clueless about drugs on offer or where you might like to give birth or indeed that you might want a baby monitor or bouncy seat for them - - I do hope class 4 is more interesting.

are you making freinds with the other mums n dads? Ive heard of loads of ppl saying they made some really good friends at their clases. It wasnt like that at ours. the people were from all over the place. the only couple that lived near by left early because the woman felt ill

well I think that you are all lucky to have anything at all, there is nothing on offer here and you dont have midwifes either or any follow up home visits in any shape or form. If I had not had a cesearean and given birth naturally I would have had no idea about positions, breathing etc. ALSO the only pain relief you get here is an epidural or nothing and I only knew that cause a friend had her baby in January and was able to give me some advice so sorry girls stop moaning and count your blessings!!!!!!!!!!!

Had out first class last Thursday night... I was shattered and not feeling great (see low kicks thread!) anyway, so guess I probably was not in the right frame of mind. But I found it very slow and did not learn anything I didn't already know either.

DH really enjoyed it though, so hoping it is just me being a grump.

The other couples were a bit of a mixed bag, there were a few I could imagine maybe being friends with and a few that I am sure I won't!

I am also doing the NCT classes and cannot imagine how they are going to fill the whole 14 hours we have left. In one week we have:
Tues 10am - 12 (woman only)
Thursday 8pm - 10pm
Sat 10am - 5pm
My brother's wedding is sandwiched inbetween on the Friday!!

Nicola - BTW - no sign of being flogged bras yet! :D

:rotfl: The teacher mentioned this on our ladies only lesson on Friday. Seemingly she said the NCT do bra's but they don't use their lessons to sell them. I was pleased to hear that I must say. Fingers crossed the ladies only breastfeeding class on the 6th is just teaching, not selling!!

Yes the ladies seem really nice, not sure DH is that keen on the other husbands (very posh and DH isn't into all of that stuff) they are already talking about dinner parties and combined ski holidays....we shall see. Lunch with them after class is enough for now!
