I know they can't really understand them yet but at what age did you start reading books to your LO? And at what time of day?
I'm thinking of joining my local library just for somewhere to go lol but I was just wondering whether it was worth getting any books for Phoebe yet?
If so can anyone recommed any good ones?
:)

I started reading to my LO when she was 10 weeks old an I read to her every night xxx

Reading to babies from an early age is a really good habit to get into! When they're tiny they'll enjoy the comfort of having you close, then as they get older they'll enjoy listening to your voice and start looking at the pictures. You can read anytime of the day but I used to love having stories at bed time, and that's what I do with the children I look after. It's good to calm them down ready for sleep.

Books with black and white pictures, mirrors etc are good for little babies, then picture or rhyming books.

I recommend:

Any 'Usbourne Touchy Feely' books
Any 'Amazing Baby' books
Any 'Baby Einstein' books
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Each Peach Pear Plum

My local library does Rhyme Time every week for children, plus a huge range of baby board books. I'd definetly sign up!

We started reading to LO when she was around 6 weeks old and we're both amazed at how much she takes in. She'll sit quite happily through one or two books. She chats and squeals with books she really likes.

Her favourites are books with sparkly bits (e.g. that's not my fairy) or lift the flap books (e.g. dear zoo and where's spot).

We also read her a 'peek-a-boo' book every night for her bedtime story.

She's 3 months old now and she's already trying to touch the pages. Definitely start asap!

We have been reading to K since she was born, but she seemed to start enjoying the books at about ten weeks. Our favourite books are anything by Eric Carle, Jeremy Tankard, and Sandra Boynton, or anything touch and feel. I read any time of day.

Ahh so I should have started earlier then, ah well better late than never lol. Thanks guys :)

With her bedtime routine she has a bath around 9 and then has a bottle in a dark room and is asleep by 9.30 - 10. I'm gradually trying to get it earlier atm. But I don't normally talk to her when I'm trying to get her to bed as it keeps her awake. Maybe I'm better off doing it just before she has her bath or bath her a little earlier.

We have been having a bedtime story since about 6 weeks, but Emily didn't really enjoy the story at first... She just wanted her bottle! I also read to her at odd times during the day... It really doesn't matter what when they are very young - seriously it could be the financial times! The important thing is that they are hearing your voice, words and the cadence of language. We look at black and White board books together and I read her lots of rhyming books especially. She has now started to reach out and touch the books, so I am going to get some 'feely' books as I don't have any yet.

We've read to DS pretty much from day one, started with soft books and also got some monochrome books from water stones, we just described the pictures and pointed things out to him at first. I don't think you can ever start too young! Now DS is nearly 20 months now and he absolutely LOVES books! He'd rather read than pretty much anything else! He recites (as in he knows the rhythm and can copy it with sound) of We're Going on a Bear Hunt and knows when to say 'uh oh', 'oh no' and 'it's a bear'. He also knows Monkey Puzzle and can find the correct animals on his noisy Dear Zoo book.

Also his bedtime favourites are Peepo, Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You and The Gruffalo's Child.

We started really quick with Oz too, he LOVES books. YOu have to read the same one over and over and over again lol His fave atm is Hairy McClary!!! He loves the touchy feel books and the books with flaps etc. OH went to pick him up from nursery on Friday and Oz was on his on, in the corner sat on a chair reading a book while all the others played!! Too cute lol

I read to Angel not every single day but most days, I've got some Disney books and the Beautrix Potter stuff I loved as a kid and fun ones like Spot the Dog :) I don't do it at a specific time each day but I usually do it during play time and sometimes before a nap. I don't do it at bedtime as weve got a pretty good routine for bedtime and I wouldn't wanna disrupt it iywim lol xx

Holly loves books. She goes to the shelf, pulls them all off, digs out her faves and shouts at us till we go and get them! Good ones are board books by helen oxenbury i think that's her name and spots noisy car with sounds!

we have done from day one, my lo's favourites are the peep-o one and each peach pear plum, she loves them!

I read Jack a bedtime story every night before his milk. I have done since he was 6 months old. So far he'll only tolerate a couplefpages before trying to throw it on the floor (hie fave game at the moment lol) but hopefully as he'll get older we'll start getting through whole stories :) He really wouldn't have the patience to read at any other time of the day at the moment because he's too busy playing lol x

We do it just whenever. Just as part of playtime etc.xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(
