Mine is tomorrow at 9am with my GP,
It's been a LONG time since i've been through one of these and as my gp will be run off her feet at 9am on a Monday morning any tips on what to pay attention to and what to ask?
All advice and pointers required and appreciated

Hi Fee,

Mine was basically going over what would happen next, what to expect, what tests I'd be offered and why (and told these tests were only done if you concented to them doing thme). It was a time for me to ask any questions I had (and I had millions) and some leaflets were given to me. I also had to check my name, address, phone number and date of birth were all correct on the forms/records they had. They really didn't do too much or say very much in all honestly, my blood pressure was taken and noted down but that was it really, more just a little chat. Nothing to worry about what so ever. You'll have a proper antenatal appointment when you reach the 12 week marker (plus a scan!).

Oh and I had my booking in appointment with my community midwife. I only saw my GP to be refered to the maternity unit in the first place type thing.

Wicked!!! Thanks ever so thats exactly the sorta thing i was after knowing!!
I was 19 last time and didnt find out till i was 5 months so this time its all very different :rotfl:

Oh will this be your second baby? I have no idea why but I thought you were a first time mum too!! I'm blonde and pregnant so have the best excuses for my scatter brain syndrome just now!!

Yeah really it was just a welcome meeting, when you would next see them and why type thing, ask your questions and just really a touching base with you before all the 'real' bits start at 12 weeks.

Well mine was anyway, others might have had a different experience of it?

xx

Yeah i have a 10 year old daughter
But like i said everything is sooooooo different this time, completely opposite!

That's lovely, I have 4 teenage step-children (16, 17, 19 and 21) the older three no longer live at home but still it's wierd being a mother to a 21 year old when I'm only a few years older than her myself!! :)

DH seems to think this baby is soooo so different from his last 4 also, I guess things change, even a year or two can make a big difference!! My Mum doesn't understand half the things I'm telling her I'm having or getting etc - she's always asking "what on earth is that for" or "why" mind you it was 27 years ago she had me!!

LOL my MIL said the same thing then carried on with well at least they come out the same hole...... dont they?
Had to laugh when i said not this time :rotfl:

Ha Ha lmao, I always say Riley got stuck so he had to come out of the 'sunroof' :rotfl:

Hoping baby no 2 doesn't pull the same stunt.

Sunroof... :rotfl: ........I've never heard that before!!!

Well what a waste of time that was, saw my doc and she did height, weight and blood pressure, then asked how the scan went i said about going back on Thursday for another one and she then said shes not going to refer me till i ring her and let her know if i'm still pregnant :?
She then asked me about my previous birth experience (she obviously hasn't read ma notes!) once i mentioned the 16 days over, the induction, the forcep delivery, (after 3 days in labour!) the episiotomy sp??? the fistula and then the colostomy and finally the huge hernia she went a green colour so god knows what will happen next.
She did however mention that i wont get a 12 week scan as i will be having this one on Thursday and i'm gutted about that :(
So fingers crossed for Thursday, if the baby is still there and growing then i'm to call my doctor who will then send my referal, untill then i'm not offically pregnant

Oh Fee I'm sorry it was such a bad experience for you. I wish they could be nicer about it. I have to say although my GP is worth her weight in gold she said similar to me that I wouldn't be refered to the midwives so early on (I went in pregnant just over 4 weeks!) and said she would rather wait and refere me when I was nearer 8 or 9, the look on my face must have said it all as she said "oh what the hey we will do it now" I was so relieved!! I can't believe she hadn't read your notes and looked at your strange when you told her your history, what's the matter with doctors these days, high salary for doing very little!! If you do have an early scan around 9/10 weeks it's often procedure that they are not repeated at 12 weeks, crazy really but with just 2 weeks between them you can see why I suppose. If you have the money (about £70 marker) do think about having a private scan instead, you could do that tomorrow if they had space (most places do!) and then you would still get your NHS 12 week scan done, or...vice versa. Have the NHS early scan and then book yourself in for a scan at around 14 weeks instead? It's terrible the care we get (and in some cases, don't get) here mainly due to blooming hot shots in offices somewhere saying that department can only see X amount of ladies today and X amount next month type thing. What the heck they know is anyone's business but it's all at the end of the day a business and everyone, NHS and all are in it for proffit. What a sad world we live in!! Chin up though you know you have all of us on here to offer any advice and help we can!!
