everything went well apart from when it came to the blood tests. She needed to fill 4 tubes. Had 3 attempts and still no joy so i have to go to hospital just for blood to be taken! i now have very sore and bruised arms anyone else have the same prob? she's also told me to go by my last period, date wise and not the 6 week scan i had as they cant give a precise date until at least 12 weeks! so i'll be changing my ticker...again

Hi Claire,

This happened to me too - the midwife just couldn't get my blood so had to send me to the nurse the following day for her to do it - what a faff!

I am someone who gives blood every 3 months (not at the moment however) and the blood transfusion service never ever have a problem finding a vein!

its happened to me twice hun, they couldnt find the vein the 1st time went to the outpatients and they forund it straight away, had my 16 week check yesterday and they had forgotton to check my blood group so she tried again to take bloods (also for chicken pox as id been near my darling chicken pox infected cousin) and she couldnt find a vein, she blamed the cold weather, so have to take a morning off work on friday to trapse up the hozzie

Hi hun,

Yes this happened to me too, but mine was taken by a student midwife, she got two pots from one arm then I dried up so she had to go to the other arm and I have ended up with two massive bruises, but at least she got there in the end.

urrrgghhh, im not looking forward to all the blood tests again,

i had to have a few extra last time as the babies cousin has cystic fibrosis and the docs needed to make sure i wasnt a carrier,
the nurse took forever to find a vein then make me nearly faint with all the jabbing and poking!
i had no idea i was so squeamish! lol
all i know is i left there with very bruised and aching arms!
