Booking appointment - disappointed again!

Had my booking appointment this morning and was really disappointed that nothing was really discussed.

I had my blood taken. blood pressure checked and a urine sample was given but not once did we discuss any medical history, anything to do with the midwife care I will get, anything about hospitals, nothing! I got booked in for another appointment at the beginning of April and have my nuchal fold scan next monday but surely someone should have asked me where I want to be treated and all that?!

I am getting a bit concerned that everyone on here seems to have had so much more information than me and I am not getting everything I need?

Hi madam bully, am so sorry to hear you had a crap appointment.

I also had my urine and blood pressure taken (not blood) but as you may have seen from my post she did extensively go through medical history etc, and i'm nearly 3 weeks behind you!

Don't know what else to suggest, is there another midwife you can talk to? xx

hey sweetie, my booking appointment wasnt that great either, was very vague, spent most of the appointment looking for a vein to take blood, she couldnt find one and sent me to rsch for blood to be done there!
My next one is at the end of the month, im hoping the next will be better
whens your scan hun?

We are off to Kings Hospital for the nucal scan next monday so get to see the little bean in one week

I guess I will just have to wait until April to ask anything!! Just seems very odd to me!

Be like your name and insist on proper care....sounds like they are just passing you off as another pregnant lady, and not explaining or asking you anything... try asking them the questions...write a list and take it to your MW...phone and make that appointment yourself...thats what i done this morning...I plan to be in control this time round....good luck.. My booking appointment really sucked too (wrote about it on here at the time). I think the level of care you get varies so much from place to place and midwife to midwife.
I've spoke to a friend of mine who's pregnant and a nurse and she says you just have to be really pushy all the time and not let them shoo you out the door before you've discussed everything you want to talk and ask about. It sounds easier said than done though, I was so disappointed after my appointment I couldn't wait to get out the room so I could start crying! My next appointment wasn't booked until 6 weeks later, and I'm hoping I'm in a more robust mood next time and ready to kick some midwife ass!

That is exactly how I felt! I am preparing myself for the next visit and going to write everything down this time so I don't miss anything.

Many midwives do talk o you but i do find that it is easier to ask questions.Midwives work of a time table and they hate to be late....I think they allocate a certain time to you then they get rid and in goes the next one I am a mum to 8 and am now expecting again and over the last four pregnancies i have been much left alone. When i have gone into labour i am pretty muchleft to it aswell untill i can take no more. They assume that because i have had so many i know it all, but there is a lot more to it than that........My last midwife was a nightmare and i will not be having her this time.......Good luck on future appointments...Change your nidwife if you want.Its your pregnancy.........Mum of 8 soon to be more....

may it be 1st or 10th it makes no difference.Congrats to all pregnant mums or mums-to-be.....It is a special time for any person.I do love them all though and i just wish i wasable to carry on forever but i have limits and i would like to get to 10.........but who knows how far things go...........Good luck with yours.......

Sorry it was a crappy visit i think doctors automatically think that you know everything you should, my doctor with both told me what to eat and what not to eat asked me if i had questions ect spent a good half hour in there
