Hi girls

I wasn't sure where to post, but felt this might be a good starting point.

I'm planning on breast feeding, but I'm unsure whether I need to get any bottles, sterliser and pump before baby is born. Also I'm not sure which is best to get in terms of bottles, teats, pump ... Well the whole lot if I'm honest lol.

Any advice would be welcome :)

I got a free manual pump from nuby and brought a steriliser and bottles BUT ended up EBF and my boy doesn't like the bottles.
I suggest if you want one just incase and to save money, buy one (so there isn't too much temptation but it's there) and I saw yesterday in Asda microwave steriliser bags, 3 for £2.99 (each have 20 uses) and you'll have enough to get you by should you need to use a bottle for any reason.

I have a medela swing breast pump now. Cost me £70 but is amazing. When you first bring baby home you won't be expressing as it's really important that as challenging as it is baby stays attached to you as your milk supply will be being built up so I think a pump can be brought after if you stick to EBF. It's also suggested you wait a couple of weeks for your supply to regulate before you use one anyway.

Hope that helps.

I always planned to EBF if possible, and I started out like that, but it became excruciatingly painful and I ended up expressing and feeding him bottles for a months or so, to give my nipples a chance to heal. I had bought a steriliser, pump and bottles just in case, and I used them a LOT, all that helped me get through the rough patch and now I'm back to EBF.

An electric pump is always good to have around the house though, you might want to have a break and go out for a night.

We just bought a bottle of sterilising solution (like Milton) and we sterilise the odd bottle in an old ice cream tub filled with water and milton.
I didn't buy anything before hand and it worked out fine. If I had needed I could have sent oh out to pick up anything we had needed.

i bought it all ! even though i was planning on breastfeeding, you never know what could happen and i didnt want to stress out about not having eerything if baby needed bottles!

i ended up breastfeeding for 5 days and then moved onto FF due to a really bad cut on my left nipple, so its a good job i had bought everything else!

i didnt buy a pump in the first place as i thought id try natural first and if i found i wanted to express i could buy one when i needed one as its not an essential. i obvs didnt end up buying one due to moving onto FF so saved money there. But also you have 28 days to return something as long as its not used so wait til the last minute, buy it all and then if u dont use it you can take it all back :D when you start BF you'll prob have an idea of how long you'll be doing it for

xxxxx

Thanks for your replies girls :)

Sorry but what does EBF stand for? ... Breast feed I'm guessing.
