Hi all. I'm a little concerned. Basically I got diagnosed with pcos in nov last year and got put on metformin. Managed to drop my bmi from 34 to 28 but got weighed at 12 week scan and noticed my bmi is now 30.1. According to paperwork above 30 is classed as high risk. Really gutted as I know I can't try to loose weight but annoyed at myself for putting it on. :wall2:

What risks does it mean and should I be worried? I'm now 13 and a half weeks. Baby was fine although bigger then I thought it would be.

Thanks in advance ladies.xx

my bmi was a lot higher than urs and my gp wasnt worried whatsoever, you can go to some slimming groups while preg, woman in my slimming world group is preg :) xx

bmi is a load of toosh anyway so I wouldn't worry, it doesn't take into account how much of your 'weight' is healthy muscle and how much is fat, athletes are often classed as obese going from bmi, so as long as the gp or midwife isn't conserned then I would't be either.

i go to slimming world, it is safe to do when pregnant, even if u only wanna shift half a stone or maintain ur weight whilst pregnant.

Weight watchers is not safe to do when pregnant, however, so be careful whatever u decide.

I got my BMI down from 30.7 to 23.9, and its now at 25.1, which is just into overweight, but im gonna keep goin and hopefully lost 3lbs to get back to normal then try and maintain my weight until the last few weeks of pregnancy when i will put on baby weight. ATM is just me piggin out!

I was the same as you 28.something and now i'd be at least 100 hehe not really - im sure they will go on what you were before you were pregnant. Well done for losing the weight in the first place. You are bound to go up.....i put on loads in the first 12 weeks, a lot of it was fluid. Well that's my story and im sticking to it ;) x

I think the risks are a larger baby and increase risk of early mc (u past that) high blood pressure and diabeties but to be fair u can get any of those without being overweight too so it will be ok I have a v. High bmi too x

i wouldn't worry about your bmi at all, mine has risen at my booking appointment and was around the 28 mark, my midwife hasn't weighed me since that appointment! i've weighed myself every now and then, and have put on about 3 stone in total! and my midwife is obviously not worried as she'd weigh me if she wanted too! so i really wouldn't worry about it, just stay eating healthily and sort it out after you've give birth! thats my plan! best of luck x

I had my BMI done today and it was 28.2 - which kinda shocked me a bit - higher than i thought i was - however i still fit into most of my size 12 clothes ( appart from a few skin tight tops - which make me look fat/pregnant - i think thats bloating. lol). here's hoping it'll all nicely fall off when we're running around after LO's in a few months time.
x
