Started Evelyn on solids about 3-4 days ago but was just wondering what everybody feeds their babies?

Evelyn has a bit of unbuttered toast in the morning and then has whatever we have for tea - tonight she had a bit of grilled chicken, brocolli and a petit filous (sp?) for pud.

I'm a bit lost as to what I can take out and about with us to eat...also we use a lot of jarred cooking sauces, are these suitable for a 6 month old or should I make my own? I can make my own, i'm just lazy! lol!

Happy weaning everyone! :-D

Just give her anything tbh, just avoid things with a high salt content (like jars of sauces ect).

Apples and sandwiches are good for out and about and bananas. If she'll eat cold pasta then you could put some chopped tomatoes over some cooked pasta and let her nibble away at that :)

I love weaning...its so messy! :D

Ta :) What do you normally take out and about with you? I was thinking of cooked carrot sticks in a tub etc? That's all i've come up with... :wall: lol!

cucumber, pepper, yoghurt, skips, not sure as im not weaning yet x

Well Im heading out for the day today and Ill probably take a banana and a sandwich for her lunch and maybe a rusk as a snack (this is the only sweet thing I give her and she likes to hold it rather than eat it lol). But as above really, just take anything! Carrot sticks is good  but also cucucmber, pepper ect.

good thread :) we start soon! v excited!

you could always take out bits and bobs from the dinner the night before aswell? like bits if grilled chicken etc? there's a good blw forum that I've been having a nosey around too.

We bought our highchair on sunday-the ikea antelop (11 quid!) it's brill!!

ooh the snack packs of fruit from asda are great, pineapple sticks... have u seen the net u can get to put foods in?? i used to bring out with me cold cooked pasta... asda do a fab extra large pasta which is great for finger food and she used to love it i used to boil it in chicken stock for bit of flavour not v messy either... also

a hot dog roll
bread muffin
cucumber
pepper
apple sticks
grapes
banana
large orange quartered is a fave for madison?

cant think of anymore lol!! xx

Melio, how does Paige get on with bread? She loves it but, When emily has it she looks like she is choking and brings it back up? The HV said not to worry about it but it doesn't seem quite right to me? I get quite scared!! X

I have problems with bread too, Cahal doesn't swallow it, he just stores it all mushed up at the top of his mouth!

She wont eat white bread (which is fine by me lol) but with brown she just chews it and swallows it lol, she seems to have got chewing down to a T. Although if she accidently bites a big bit off she'll either turn her face red choking or spit it straight out. She likes grainy bread as well (my mum gave her sunflower bread when I was out lol)

Im only doing half and half of BLW, so with TLW Im now giving her lumpy food and shes taking to it so well. She pulled a face at them at first, but after the first bowl she was fine.

Does she have any teeth yet? X

i'm really wary with carrot sticks about choking - i still freak if K has them now!

the choking and spitting out thing - their gag reflex is further down their tongue than ours, so where we would gag at around the same time we would choke, they gag with the food a lot further forward in their mouths! it took me a lot of sitting on my hands to get used to it, but you can tell the difference between choking and gagging!

pasta's a good one, especially the ones that are easy to grab!
courgettes
pitta bread
sweet potato "chips"
butternut squash
marrow

i was a lot more easy going with mess when i just had the one, and i did things like just tip a bowl of spag bol/porridge/anything messy and let her just pick it up and eat it! they say a big part of them learning to eat is to let them feel it, so i just left her to it!

I love gummy smiles :) Glad that Evelyn has no toothy pegs yet!

my friends little boy LOVES pieces of pittabread with humus!!!!! yummm

There is a fab BLW cook book that I have got loads of ideas from... I got mine of amazon x

Paige had a mozzarella and slow roasted tomato panini with green pesto yesterday with tomatoes on the side and she went crazy over it! I love watching her chowing down on her food :D
