I didn't really know where to post this but maybe you can help...

I found out on Sunday I was 4 weeks + 1 pregnant. Sunday night I had lightly blood-stained discharge. I went to the doc's Monday morning and was admitted to hospital for observation (they have no facilities at my doc's).

The bleeding has since gotten worse, it went to mild bleeding on Sunday afternoon/evening and I would say today it is the same as a light period.

I have has a few small (0.5cm) clots as well but the blood has been bright red and not brown. I have had mild period-like 'pain' (more like discomfort) and a few very small cramps (although I'm not sure if that\s my uterus or my guts which have been playing up recently).

The doctor did an ultrasound scan with the probe and palpated me. There was no sign of the pregnancy and last nigh she diagnosed me with a 'threatened miscarriage'. She took bloods and did a lot of tests, oddly none of them testing my HCG levels.

Since last night (it is now nearly 6pm over here) the bleeding has increased to what I would call 'moderate'. I saw another doctor at rounds this morning who took more blood for an HCG test (she said it was odd they didn't test yesterday). I am waiting for results.

I have stopped 'feeling' pregnant. I no longer feel nauseous although am still very tired.

I have been reading till my eyes bleed about bleeding during early pregnancy (I am now 4+3) and lots of people have gone on to have normal pregnancies and babies. But it's the 'feeling'. I know it's silly but I jsut know I've lost the baby.

Has anyone got any advice for me? I have another 2 or 3 hours left to wait until these HCG results come back and I just don't really know *why* this is happening.

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Helen

What a horrible situation to be in, I really feel for you

I can't offer any advice other than not to blame yourself if the worst has happened - it really is just one of those things, and it's very very unlikely you could have done anything to prevent it. I also know of people who bled throughout their pregnancy, and not just light flow or spotting, so try to stay positive. x

Hi I'm very surprised they admitted you into hospital at 4 weeks. :?

Unfortuntly it sounds like a chemical pregnancy, they are very common, but also very upsetting.
If your betas come back very low and then lower again chances are it was a chemical. If it goes up it could just be one of those things where women bleed and they never find the cause, or its to do with implantation - it's a waiting game

Was it a private hospital you went to, like a Bupa one? If they did an ultrasound at 4 weeks and charged you they are ripping you off i'm afraid to say. You wont see anything at that stage and a sonographer would know that.

i'm afraid it's not good news. My beta HCG was 7.1 which is incredibly low. we are seeing the specialist tomorrow but there is no way I am still pregnant with that count.

ho hum. better luck next time i suppose. thanks again for all your help

Sorry for your loss
Unfortunatley it is very common but none the less painful. Take some time to grieve and get the suport you need. There is every chance you will go on to have a normal pregnancy in the future.
All the best.
Andrea
