Hey girls!!

I have arranged a birthing pool and I collect it at 36 weeks. I just wanted to ask those of you who know about birth pools at home.....what things do I need to buy ready for the pool??

I already have:
Cheap Shower curtains for underneath birth pool
Lots of old towels
A few kettles to keep water warm incase it cools down and no hot water in tank

What else do I need??

I know I still need to buy a hose pipe and kitchen tap connector. But where do I buy the hose from, I mean is there a recommended hose pipe to buy?? How is best to empty the birth pool?? Just buckets?? I am clueless!!! lol.

Is there anything you recommend??
Does anyone have any tips or advice??

Thanks girlies!!!! x

:) :) :)

I dnt have a lot of advice, but surely your MW will be able to give u a list of essentials?

My midwife told me to get a cheap sieve, a torch and a small handheld mirror so she can check what's going on without me getting out of the pool.

Does your pool not come with a hose and tap fittings? I thought they all did? It hadn't occurred to me that I'd have to buy one. ... I pick mine up in a week or so, so will find out soon i guess!

I think you can hire submersible pumps to empty the pool, otherwise it's buckets I'm afraid. My midwife recommended the pump if you can get one.

I got a phthalate-free hose pipe from Made in Water, and also got a tap connector from somewhere. I bought an aquarium pump from eBay to empty the pool, which was better than buckets.

Have something soft at the side of the pool that you can kneel on for a long time - I ended up giving birth on the floor next to the pool. We used old foam fold-up mattresses that, ahem, had to be binned afterwards. I wanted to breastfeed immediately, so I laid on the mattress propped up and fed LO under a duvet, so have something to hand in case you can't get to bed before feeding. I was too wobbly to walk for an hour or two after the birth.

Do you have a thermometer for your water? That's really important. And yes, kettles on standby are good.

Hope this helps! Good luck xxx

The house water birth was IMPRESSING! He was birthed with me on my knees and hands and my partner sitting to me in the water.

The water birth makes it harder for you to eliminate the tightenings makings them more efficient. Since of the water, I went from 4 to 10 in one hour. Since of our having the infant at house, we didn't have to leave the home for 4 days.

I simply saw my midwives up till completion. Then they would have delivered me off to the OB, if there were any concerns.

You will require a BRAND-NEW hose that will hook up straight to your hot water heater. Make sure that you do not require an additional accessory to get to the hot water heater.

I understand that I want that I can have an additional house water birth, however this time it is not exercising that means ... however I am still going to have the ability to have a water birth at the healthcare facility with a midwife. Things take place for a reason and I am simply accompanying the flight.

The house water birth was ASTONISHING! The water birth makes it harder for you to combat the tightenings which makes them more reliable. I went from 4 to 10 in one hour due to the fact that of the water.

We just bought a hose and connector from a hardware store ... apart from that I'd ask your midwife as they might have different ideas about what else you need...All the very best for your pregnancy and birth.
