Everybody including midwife seem to get pleasure out of teasing me that i am going to have a massive baby. First of all what size is big? I keep imagining having a 10lber thinking thats big, yet some people think that 8lb is huge. I am starting to get upset about this and scared i wont be able to give birth naturally as i am only 5'3. Personally i dont think i look as massive as people delight in telling me. I have seen far bigger women than me, i am not sure if its because i have only really put weight on my tum so it looks big? I guess what i am trying to ask is ladies who gave birth to big babies, did you find it hard? Was it difficult for them to come out (lol sounds stupid but i dont know how else to ask  )? Have any of you had one small and one big baby? Which one was the easier? My mum said my bro was the easiest to give birth to and he was 9lb 6 and just shot out! I know it sounds stupid but i keep having nightmares about giving birth to an abnormally large baby and being in imense pain :(

Dont worry, everyone keeps telling me im having a monser baby but i know im not as big with this one as i was with the others, my last was 10lb and was no more difficult than any of the others although i will admit my daughter who was 7lb 14oz was by far the easiest and the quickest.
To me anything under 8.5lb is small

everyone including my midwife told me that I would have a really big baby - she was 8lbs 1oz at T+11 and all I could say was - wow she's tiny :rotfl:

Hiya hun. Just to say even if your baby is big dont worry too much - once baby is here you wont mind whether they are big or small or how they came out.

No one was expecting James to be a 10lber, least of all me, and the emergency C section was as a result of them not realising how big he was. I have got a small pelvis anyway so I had no hope of delivering him naturally.

Once he was in my arms though it didnt matter and now I dont even think about it.

There is also a HUGE benefit to having a big baby if you do have one - there is much more to cuddle and you feel that you CAN cuddle em and wont break them when you do. :D

Dont worry im 5ft 2 ish and had a 9lb 8er  This ones a biff aswell, and actually 8lbs is very average in terms of babies sizes nowadays

oh i forgot to say im 5ft 3 and had easy births my sister is 5ft 7 and had a real rough time

Also helps is you have a big faff, in this case i do i think :rotfl:

To me anything under 8.5lbs is small too  I have a huge pelvis though and big feet, so they just sorta fall out :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:...lil miss was just short of 9lbs (which for a girl is rather large), I think if she'd gone to 40 weeks she'd easily have been 9lbs.

glad you asked this as i keep getting told i am going to have a big baby a am so concerened i have packed 2 sets of clothes newborn and 0 - 3 months as i really have no idea. I was 9lb 7 when i was born so am expecting that + some i think :(

My last one was 9lb 8 and was the quickest and easiest both the boys were smaller than her (8lb 2 and 7lb 10) don't forget big doesn't ness mean big head and fat tum madam was very long in body and legs and quite skinny

Thanks everyone i feel loads better now!

Mik: My OH is 6'4 so i keep trying to say to people he is probaly going to be quite long!

emmie: lol! I have done exactly the same and packed 2 sizes!

Squiglet: :rotfl: FALL OUT!!! I have some really amusing (if not disturbing) images now!

Mel&Bean: Dont think i have a big faff :rotfl: but will after this one pops out!

Jen&James:  puts it into perspective saying it like that. I have been told i have "child bearing hips" if that means anything! I am just so terrified of having a c-section :(

drea b: i keep thinking that he will pop out and suprise everyone by being small..that would show em lol! Esp. all the people who have to put their 2 pennies in  !

hennaly: Well i will definatly take your advice, being as your on number 7  i think 8lb is about average for my family on both sides.

hiya,

My cousin has had 2 kids, first one was around 9lb and she gave birth naturally, second one was 7lb and got stuck, it was a very long labour, they tried forceps but eventually he was delivered by emergency section, he was just not coming out! I found this really odd but just shows you size doesnt always make a huge difference :D

yes my darling you will indeed have a faf the size of a wizard pocket when youve done. Im afraind my inards my just fall out qafter this one, ive already lost most of my bladder control, its so much fun being like an old lady it really is :cheer:

I'm 5'4" and I've had two 'big' babies

The first was 10lbs 10oz and the second was 10lbs 1oz

Both of them were delivered vaginally. Admittedly both got a bit stuck, but after a bit of cutting and tearing down there they came out lol.

Your body will be able to cope with what it's presented with, so don't worry hun

My son was almost 10lb and popped out after 34 minutes of second stage labour. Really easy :) I certainly never felt pushing him out was a problem.

FWIW they say having a baby on the larger side is easier to push out than a smaller one.

Just wanted to agree With Jen having a big bABY rules they are so cuddly and lovely :)

How do the big feet help :?

2 separate mw said I was going to have a biggun, at one of my last appointments she was feeling the head and said "oooh, this baby has a big head"  . Not what you want to hear when pregnant, as it it turned out she was only 7lb and quite petite so they were totally wrong  . I think they were feeling her the other way up as she was back to back and they didn't know.

have you considered rasberry leaf tea/tablets? as i understand it they are supposed to help with the pushing stage of labour, someone tell me if i get it wrong. im not sure how early you'd have to be taking it for it to start kicking in but might be worth looking up ?

xx

In for a penny, in for a pound I say! When your giving birth its tough either way so a few extra ozs makes no difference!!! Mine was a 10lb one and was fine! Like someone said, more to cuddle! :D
