Has Anyone Given Birth To a Baby Weighing 8lb+ and If So How Was The Labour Briefly If You Dont Mind Me Asking .. (Tearing,Intervention,Pain Relief). Im Just a Little Worried That Im Having a Big Baby & Will Have a Traumatic Labour x

Aimee was 8lb 11oz and I never had any real problems with her apart from she was in the wrong position. If she had been in the right position the birth would have been fine. I never tore or had any intervention and I had gas and air and pethadine.
Nathan was 9lb 5oz and had a very fast birth just on gas and air and never tore at all. His shoulders did get stuck though which I think is quite common with larger babies. The MWs dealt with it quickly and calmly and he was born shortly after.

Kieron was 8lb 9oz born at 42 weeks and i had a 36 hour labour and he was born by vontouse and i had 16 stiches
Hannah was born at 35+5 and weighed 10lb 4oz and i had a 12 hour labour follwed by emergency c section

Evie was 9lb10z, I had a reasonably quick 7hour labour and managed on just gas and air and birthing pool. Unfortunately I did have a third degree tear and had to have an epistomy BUT it sounds more horrific than it actually is. In the throws of labour all the pain just blends into one! :D

I'm quite a slim jim (well was pre birth!) and had no idea she was going to be so big. I'm quite glad I didn't know really as would probably just have worried. I know everyone says it but it is so worth the pain when you get to hold your little one for the first time.

35+ 5 and 10lb - blummin hell! :rotfl:

What makes you think you are having a bigger baby hun? I just want to say if mw's etc have told you you have treat with caution.

Towards the end of my pregnancy i was so frightened because at 36 weeks the baby was supposedly already 7lb12oz according to scan so i was expecting when induced at 39 weeks to have a 8/9lb+ .... and at the event she was 7lb5oz a very healthy weight.

I have heard also that bigger babies are easier to giver birth too unless their position is awkward..but u will be guided by the midwifes and there are consultants all around.

You will be fine hun x

Yes Your Right, It Was The MW That Got Me Worrying a Little By Saying The Baby Is Measuring Big & Although I Know This Is An Inaccurate Way Of Measuring, I Have Still Been a Little Worried About It But Feel Better After Hearing What You Said :)

good hun, if they do start getting concerned about frequent larger measurments they may opt to do a GTT (Glucose tolerance) and maybe a growth scan. If these are offered definately do it..

I tried for ages to get a GTT and when they finally relented at 36 weeks i had Gestational Diabetes which was too late to be treated so i had to be induced early - i wasn't happy because really wanted a natural birth.

But this is rare so dont panic...enjoy your pregnancy you know your own body hun xx

I'll Deffinately Bare That In Mind :) Thank You xx

Kate was 9lb exactly, it wasnt the most enjoyable 18 hrs of my life I must say! In the end I had gas and air, then pethidine, then an epidural, then a spinal block and a forcep delivery in theatre which was going to proceed to c section if they couldnt get her out with the forceps.

Dont let that put you off though.. and its too late now anyway! :rotfl:

(And I am TTC number two now - glutton for punishment :D )

carly.. bubs has to come out however heavy it is.. your small so chances are your baby wont be that big.

people can tear with smaller babys, charlotte was 7lb10 and i tore..people need assistance with lighter babys than that.. i suppose its all down to babys positioning and your body, my mums friends daughter had a baby at 14lb2, and didnt tear..nothing.. charlotte weighed 14lb when she was 3 months olds lol..

True! I tore with my 1st who was only 6lb 11oz and nothing at all with the other 2.

My son was 9lbs 9oz I was in labour for only 1 and half hours and I had a little gas an air in ambulance but nothing else I had no tears stitches or any thing    Lucky aren't I??
Every1 is different hun people have short & long labours with small or big babies sum have it harder than others
Just keep open mind when it comes to your labour and try not too worry bout it

Carly.............don't worry what the MW says, I've been told all the way through my pregnancy that I was having a big baby and that when I hit 31 and a half weeks, had my growth scan, my baby is right on schedule.

To be honest, MW's and doc's can not predict the size of a baby from 25 weeks to what it will be by the time you give birth. My mum's neighbour is a MW, has been for 30yrs and the advice she gave my mum to pass onto me;

Not to worry, for years people have been saying 'oh you're having a big baby, maybe 9 lbs plus', then the baby pops out at a healthy 7.5 lbs.

I've badgered the women on this forum for months and it turns out I was made to worry for nothing.

Sometimes I wonder about these doctors and MW's we have lol

Don't worry hun... A friend of mine was told she was measuring big and would have a huge baby at 25+weeks and her baby came out 7lb 12... Plus she had gestational diabetes, but the baby was never that big.

I was told that Tia would be around the 7lb mark... and she came out 8lb 9oz and 57cm... so I wouldn't worry too much.. My labour was incredibly quick...what made it painful was her back to back position... I had to have an episiotomy but only because they wanted her out quick because she was in distress (again nothing to do with her size).

At the moment you are only measuring big... It might have a lot of fluid, or that your bubs is just a little bit ahead on the growth spurt mark. The problem with big babies comes after they are born, because they are very very hungry little souls and will scream night and day for food...

Jake was 8lb 15 born full term. I was always told by my mw that he was gonna be a 'good size'. My labour was 32 hours due to him being back to back. I used a TENS, gas and air, dimorphine and an epidural. I did tear, the mw tried to prevent it by telling me to pant at the very end but for the last push I just couldnt do it... my body just forced him out

My first baby was 10lbs 10oz born at 42 weeks + 4 days.
I was induced with her, had a vaginal birth, episiotomy but tore anyway (4th degree). Membranes were normal.
For pain relief I had gas and air, pethidine, and epidural.

My second baby was 10lbs 1oz born at 42 weeks + 1 day.
I was induced with him, had a vaginal birth with forceps and ventouse (cord was wrapped around his neck). Again I had an episiotomy but I didn't tear past the cut that time thankfully. Membranes were ragged.
For pain relief I had gas and air, epidural, and a local anaesthetic.

Don't worry. They will keep a close eye on things. I was measuring big early on and kept getting bigger so they did a scan and saw the baby was big so booked me in for a c-section. Quick and easy and I'm so glad...there's no way I'd have wanted to push out 11lbs worth of baby!

Aww Thanks Everyone  Im Really Looking Forward To Labour In a Strange Way..Its So Exciting.. But The Thought Of Me Tearing Just Makes Me Tightly Cross My Legs & Think Argh :| Great Advice Mums, Thank You :) xxx
