BFP After Heavy Bleeding

I took a negative pregnancy test the day my period was due and the following day I started bleeding. It was very heavy and I passed a very large clot. But it didn’t last anywhere near as long as usual and it was dark, not the usual bright red.

On cycle day 10 and cycle day 11, I got very strong positives on ovulation tests using internet cheapies. It got me thinking, as it was unusually early for me and so I took a home pregnancy test on cycle day 12 and low and behold I got a very, very strong positive that came up very, very quickly.

I realise the bleed is not a good sign and I have suffered a number of miscarriages, so I’m no fool on the matter but the negative test the day before the bleed is giving me more hope than usual. As well as the extremely strong positives yesterday and now today also. Plus the no arguments negative the day before the bleed.

I managed to get a private scan yesterday evening and the conclusion on the report is ‘pregnancy of unknown location’. The sonographer didn’t come across as very hopeful but also seemed to not want to say much. A waste of money to be honest. Although sadly, my womb lining was very thin at 2.9mm which isn’t a good sign. She has recommended I attend my local Early Pregnancy Unit at our hospital for blood tests. I very luckily got an appointment for there on Monday morning.

Anyone have any words of wisdom to get me through the weekend?

Image of the 3 tests is attached. Top was the day before the bleed on cycle day 28. Middle is cycle day 12. Bottom is cycle day 13. I must be at least 18 days past ovulation at this stage from what I can tell? But hard to tell if I’m anything from 4-6 weeks.

I should also say I have been having ovulation induction treatment using Letrazole (Femera), as I have PCOS.

Hi I'm sorry to hear your story. I had the same experience in my October cycle, it did turn out the be an early miscarriage called a chemical pregnancy.

I really hope yours is a different story but that was the experience of the situation.

I have had chemicals before but never with such strong positive tests. The empty womb scan can’t be denied though. Urgh. Thanks for the reply.

I had exactly the same as you, early scan, unknown location, sent to EPU, this was just a month ago. I sadly lost. Altho I think I have a bfp today, really hoping it’s not leftover hormone .

I bled and now I'm having BFPs and a scan PUL. Wondering if I should expect to bleed again?

I bled a lot for a few days. It got lighter as days went on. Then the EPU kept doing my bloods weekly until they went to 17 at which point she said was low enough to discharge me. xx

I don't want to give you too much hope but maybe you had a twin pregnancy and lost one, which could explain the bleeding and the still current bfp.
But I am not a nurse or doctor so I can't give any medical advice.
When you get scanned too early the only thing they can see on a scan is the thickening of the uterus but no sack yet.

When will you test again?x

Thanks, Kitana. I had to sign a waiver due to the increased chance of a multiple pregnancy because I am taking Letrazole for Ovulation Induction, so twins had crossed my mind. I have experienced similar before and EPU suggested a twin loss. Sadly I lost the other baby also very soon after. My only hope this time is how strong my lines have been so far!

I know I’m driving myself crazy but I used a digi when I woke to wee at 1am. Another symptom for me is needing the loo in the night from very early on.

It says 2-3 weeks! My hope is growing but I’m staying prepared for the worst. That makes me 4-5 weeks and I think that means it’s possible that there was nothing to be seen on the scan as yet. My thin lining is a concern though.

I shall have to wait for tomorrow. Want the blood results!

I went to EPU this morning. My home tests are getting darker still. I am quite a pro after a number of losses and if my tests had got lighter as they always have before, I wouldn’t have bothered EPU and allowed things to resolve themselves.

I had another scan and although the ‘pregnancy of unknown location’ summary is the same, the lining has thickened to 3.8 from 2.9 on Friday and I don’t know if that’s a promising sign?

The midwife today did a dip test as she was so surprised by the scan results and again the positive result was very fast appearing and very strong, so she is hoping I am just too early for the scan to pick anything up?

Blood results can back this afternoon HCG 599 and progesterone 42. I’m please with those bug of course they will repeat in 48hrs and check they are increasing adequately.

GAAAAAAAAA. I am praying this is it.
