Being overweight :(

hi hun,

im about a size 16 and weighed 80kg when i fell pregnant, we had been trying for just over a year, i had been on the pill b4 that for about 5yrs so told it would take up to a year to get out of my system, i had lost a few kg before falling pregnant cos it was my new yrs resolution to join gym n get fit, but like u, baby making over took!!

all i can say is that ive put on 5kg in the whole of my pregnancy, so about 11lb n thats it, all ive done is eat my normal sizes, binged when i wanted n really just made sure i get plently of fruit n healthy stuff to pass onto baby, n midwife said even tho my bmi was 30 when i stated, i could of put on 2- 2 1/2 stone on and that would of been ok,

so try not to worry to much, as long as you eat healthy i cant see it being too big a problem, i was tested for diabetes cos its in my family and ive had a big bump, but came back fine, so just cos were bigger, doesnt necessarily mean we will hit problems,

good luck sweetie!!

Hey! i dont think its a major major issue. some people struggle to concieve because they are seriously obese and unhealthy, where i work in a gym, we had one lady who came in size 22 and wanted to lose weight to try for a baby because the doctor said it simply wouldnt happen and if it did it probably wouldnt go full term, so i think it can be an issue if your majorly obese but your not! so just be a little sensible with eating habits and try and get some exercise like walking and you will be a bit fitter and generally more healthier. i think youve just got to remember that a fetus likes a nice healthy environment and thrives from a healthy mother, as long as you achieve that best you can, youll do well :) good luck x

It doesn't sound like your weight would be a major issue. I agree with what Lexi said!
BMI is a really messed up way of measuring someones weight as well. Before I fell pregnant I was 12st and I got pregnant in the first month! Eat healthily but don't deny yourself treats because that will just make you feel miserable!
Good luck!

I'm a size 20 and I conceived both times without even trying - I have always been quite fit and healthy and go to the gym and do lots of cardio classes. I think the only serious problems to consider once pregnant are the strain of the extra weight you are carrying and also the increased risk of gestational diabetes. I think that if you are generally healthy and fit enough to move around and exercise then you'll be fine :)

Thank you ladies. I just know what the midwives and doctors can be like, I hate being made to feel ashamed of myself and that's what it feels like when the doctors mention your weight! x

Im a size 14-16 (can be a 12 or 18 in different shops though!) I am in the overweight category but to me i dont look overweight, just a bit chubby! Although me and OH had spoken about babies and were not taking precautions (i stopped taking the pill when he went to afghan and just never went back for it when he came home) but at the same time we werent really really trying i literally concieved within 2 months! My midwife weighed, took my height etc but didnt mention my weight and in my notes i am low risk.

I do know what u mean about some doctors though, my friend who is smaller than me went to docs because she had flu when pregnant, doc went to listen to her chest and said 'oh carrying a bit of extra winter fuel arent we' she was mortified. I think thats disgusting! Don't be ashamed! xxxx

Oh how mortifying! Doctors can be so rude! I know it's their job to make sure we're healthy but I really wish they could just be a little bit better about it. I've struggled with my weight for years due to an underactive thyroid which makes it really hard to lose weight, it's just not something I want to have to worry about at the moment :) x

I dont think its a major issue hun! ive gone upto a 16/18 even though i dont feel like i should be :( xxx

Both midwives I've seen at the hospital have been rather large themselves anyway, lol. They explained that I will need a test for gestational diabetes because of my BMI but I never felt they were judging me so that's cool x
