Hi everyone!

When I wake up in the morning, I always take my temp a couple of times because I don't really trust my thermometer. (I got it from the natural cycles app, they accidentally sent me two and they both seem wonky) Today, one temp reading said 36.42 and another said 36.64. I took it a few times after and got a range of temps in between those two. What should I log as my bbt? Thanks!

I only do it once...the more you move the more it will go up. Take the lowest.

You should take, not look and not remove thermometer, reset and take again. This is the most accurate way to do it.

Thanks snowbee! Can you explain why? I’ve decided my thermometer is a dud, took my temp this morning and got 36,52 then 36,32 then 36,45 then 36,52. So frustrating

I have similar problems with my thermometer - I bought a completely different one but same problem, so I think its just the natural variation as soon as you're awake? I've started using my second temperature, taken straight away after my first. I can generally tell if the temps are in my lower pre-ov range or higher post-ov range, but the uncertainty just makes it hard to pin point a proper dip for o!

It just makes your temperature more stable if you are taking orally as it is very affected by having your mouth open/breathing.

If you want to be really accurate and are getting varied readings orally you may need to take vaginally or anally which are both more stable.

Ok thanks for the info! I’m going to start doing it vaginally next cycle. Are those temps generally higher?

I don't know as I got ok results orally provided I didn't open my mouth before taking! So sort of sliding the thermometer in and doing the two readings without moving/taking it out before the second beeped.
