I have just told one of my best friends our good news (OH will kill me!) and she has turned her back on me and walked away.

Apparantly because between us we only bring in £30k we wont be able to afford a kid- and therefore will be bad parents. My parents bought me AND my brother up on a lot less money than that- in my opinion a baby's quality of life comes from love and family NOT cold hard cash.

I admit we haven't been together very long- only 9 months/we've lived together for 2- but I am happier than I have ever been and really feel like he should be the daddy of my babies.

I'm a little bit shaken by the way she has taken it- and now I'm scared that other friends will react the same way.

AGH. ANGRY.

 x

just ignore them hun they ob aint very good mates if they do that sort of thing
me and hubby got together dec 13th last year moved in together in feb married in may lol
aslong as you can give the baby all the love and surport it needs then what else matters
manda xx

Being able to buy your child all the toys it wants isn't what is important AT ALL. No kid needs hundreds of stuffed animals. As long as you are happy, and feel ready for this, then you're all set. She's wrong to turn her back on you.

I'm happy for you hun, babies are wonderful. :cheer:

That's a terrible reaction from a friend! If she was a true friend then she would be happy and hug you and say congratulations.

Perhaps there is some jealousy?

I have no idea. I don't think its jealousy because she's not the maternal type (thats the understatement of the decade!)

OH wants to "punch her in the head" but I told him he's not much use to me when he's in jail on an ABH charge!

:x

Unbelievable! What a cheek, all the money in the world doesn't make you a good parent! :x

One word....Jealous!

Same with my so called best friend, this week she told me she couldnt think of anything more depressing than having a baby and how awful etc etc after I shared my special news with her. She then proceeded to tell anyone she could after she promised to keep quiet until after 12 weeks. She isnt the maternal type really either but people generally react this way when they are jealous, maybe not of having a baby but its certainly an achievement to have children and they are most probably lacking in their life.

OH and I only earn £30k a year and we wont make bad parents. You certainly shouldnt question yourself or your abilities to be parents over her reaction

xx

Ah, Tilly, you're a day ahead of me! Lets see who gets to the finish line first! x

As long as your happy that's all that matters  If she can't be happy for you then she's not a friend worth having!

And she say's £30k isn't much! Alot of people bring up more than 1 child on much less that that!
