I spent a year in France and really loved the french name Gilbert (with the more french pronouciation of course) Gil-Berr

But someone recently told me that in London a Gilbert is what you call the large wad of spit on the floor.

Just as well I found out before i named my child that!

Anyone heard any others to avoid?

Wow!! That's annoying!! Don't know of any others really, just keep ears open lol. X

Oh no, what a shame! Keep thinking of names Hun

I still really like the name Gilbert...

I suppose it depends what kind of people you might be associating with or where you will be living.

I didn't know a Gilbert meant that personally and now that i do - so what?

I really like the name Johnny, which of course is a term for a condom, but i kind of figured that the kids won't know what a johnny is until they are teens and even then calling someone a condom doesn't make much sense.

Same as calling someone a glob of spit, disgusting, but not really offensive.

Corey!!! We both liked the name but apparently its the greek word for male genitalia!!! And kids are beginning to use this apparently......

LOL! Actually I was only considering Gilbert because my husband really likes the name Bertie. There are so many variations to get there though.

Albert, Hubert, Bertram, Englebert, ha ha, and loads more.

We both love it because it's old fashioned and hardly used but everyone is familiar with it, it's not wierd

It's hard to find something you like that is uncommon yet normal

We decided after the Gilbert thing that why on earth can't we just call him Bertie and not have to have it shortened from anything! After all everyone seems to be doing that with Archie at the moment even though it's really supposed to be short for Archibald.

Also we are a long long way from settling on a name, not even pregnant yet, and there are a few others currently on the short list too.
