I had my first GP appointment around 5 weeks to gush that I was pregnant (my first time too!) and I wanted a referal to the midwife. She told me it was rather early to be refering me and she would be happier waiting till I was around the 8 week marker, I think my face must have crumbed as she gave in and said "oh what the heck we'll do it now" and my smile must have returned!! The advice I got from her was to ensure I was taking folic acid, not to start activities I hadn't already been doing frequently pre-pregnancy, i.e don't suddenly take up jogging or anything else strenueous. I was told to try and eat a balanced diet (everyone's told that all the time though!) but to give in to cravings etc as I'd do more harm than good by ignoring them. I was told to drink plenty of water, rest as much as I can and to expect tiredness to kick in at any point and that it might last for most of the first trimester. Really that's all I was told. I was asked to pick up a maternity information pack from reception which contained basic information and a booking form which I was told you took to the 8-9 week booking in appointment, it was name/address, whether it was my first, second, third pregnancy type thing and to include details of any past miscarraiges, fathers details if applicable, contact numbers and any major illnesses or medications I was on...oh and dates of your last period that was on there too. It was a fairly short visit but about a week later I had my booking in appointment and 12 week scan appointment letters through the door so she must have refered me straight away afterall. Hope that's of some help to you.
