I'm just wondering if anyone has any previous back problems and how they've affected them throughout pregnancy. I have a torn disc and I was on very strong pain killers for it before I fell pregnant. I struggled with walking, sleeping and general movement before hand and my mw is concerned about the stress being pregnant will put on my back. She was very unsure what rusk to put me as so until I see consultant at hospital my risk factor is blank. Does anyone have or has had a similar problem?

I just didnt want to read and run! I, like you am recovering from a torn disc at L5 it was horrendous as u described. Currently TTC but am also worried about how back will cope with pregnancy! Also worried as still need to take the odd tramadol now and again when the siatica kicks in.

Hope it doesnt bother u during ur pregnancy! xxx

Thanks hon! I hope it doesn't affect me too much as well, i haven't had the corrective surgery yet and it still really hurts me! Did you have the surgery?

I have had back problems for the past 3 years, i have discs out of place in my back (T12 and L1). I was only taking ibuprofen before my pregnancy which would help take the edge off any pain. paracetamol has never really done anything for me.

Since becoming pregnant i have been told not to take my painkillers and the only option is paracetamol. the pain in my back is really bad now and i can't seem to ever really get comfy.
I see a consultant as i have a few health problems and he has told me if my back does get unbearable he will consider sending me for physio!
I have been the doctors a few times and just get told the same things about taking paracetamol which is very frustrating as it doesn't help!!

All i can really seem to do is rest and put pillows underneath for a bit of pressure.

That's a bit disheartening! I know they can't do much because of bubs but I kind of hoped they'd be able to help more!

I have not had the surgery yet helen....they are hoping it will correct itself and relieve the nerve soon...so fingers crossed!
Katie...eurgh how frustrating of your drs! hope you get something sorted soon

The neurologist who did the diagnostic op told me there's little to no chance of it fixing itself!

I was in A&E last night and they said they can give condeine (SP) but try not to. I'm seeing the consultant on tuesday so going to ask about physio or anything else that could help.

I know swimming is meant to be good, obviously still taking it easy though.

I still have MS so trying to keep clear but think i am going to go with OH and his LO just to give something else a go.

I hope you can sort something for your back causing you problems Helen!!

I have been told pregnancy can help your back because your posture has to change so thats always something to think about so you don't worry to much. You just don't know what will happen until your in that situation i guess, everyone will react differently.
xxxx

I hope they can help you out hon! We'll just have to wait and see what consultant says! Swimming is good, well I enjoy it, so well worth a try!

codeine is safe to take, so things like co codamol but tramadol is not...went to dr today! :D he said lots of core strengthing exercises will help during pregnancy etc

I don't have pre-existing back problems but I have had a very sore lower back over the past few days and I'm not sure, but I was wondering whether this might have something to do with the fact that I have a tilted uterus and perhaps it is starting to move into the correct position and so pressing on my lower back?
