Baby Weight Question

Does anyone know roughly how much weight a baby gains between 20 and 40 weeks gestation? Someone told me it was roughly 4-6lbs but I'm not sure....I know what Pudding weighed today and don't know if that's an accurate "guess" or true to life?

Anyone know anything?

Not sure how much they gain from now on but they can double their weight in the last month apparently.

At my 21 week scan they said the baby weighed 455g which is about 1lb. I was surprised at that bearing in mind there was still 19 weeks to go!

Yes our little one was weighing in at 1lb today (well 0.4oz short of 1lb) and I thus wondered what might be normal for him to gain pre-birth? I know they can gain 8oz weekly from around 33/34 weeks but that doesn't help me figure out 21-33 weeks....ahh well we shall see at birth I suppose!!

How interesting... I wasn't told how much my baby weighed at my scan, how do they work it out anyone know?

I don't know how it's worked out, I wasn't told during the scan but afterwards when they printed out the sheet for my folder it had the usual date, time, who done the scan details etc then baby's measurements and weight in grams. I don't understand grams so converted it to pounds and little Pudding's almost 1lb....awww half a bag of sugar heavy! Perhaps it's measurements of the uterus combined with baby's measurements etc they can tell roughly what the weight is? Really not sure? Interesting that they can though.

thanks for that - I will have a look then, I didn't notice anythig about weight on that.

I would assume in that case it is based on the measurements of the baby.

Very possibly as evidently prior to around 23 weeks the babies are 0.5% fat - they gain their fat from that point onwards.....thus now I'd best get back to my fruit and cereal eating instead of crunchie bars and jam on toast!!

I am curious how they work it out though, i might have to go for one near the end to find out if im having a big boy or not

checked my print out and our baby weighed: 370g, or 13 oz in old money at our 21week +1 day scan.

so about the same as you Nicola!

Oh see cute you have your baby's weight at 21+1...another little memory! I went to Mum's yesterday (long drive!!!!) and was asking her she was amazed I even get ultrasounds let alone what else they do so that wasn't a great source of information!!

I wouldn't worry much about the baby's weight...my LO was small at the 20 week scan but has caught up now. I asked at my 34 week scan about predicated baby weight and the sonographer said they don't routinely do them as they aren't that accurate ( they can be a lb out either way) and only do them in Derby for breeech babies if the doc requests them.

When i was pregnant with bradley, i had a scan done at 30 weeks and they told me his weight was 4lb, i had him 2 weeks later weighing in at a massive 4lb 14oz's so they was right for me...

Will definatly be finding out the weight of this one cos i cant be doing with giving biorth to a 9lber ouch...
