My little girl is 2 and half weeks now and for past 2 days she has been struggling to poo. She doesnt cry in pain but strains and grunts then nothing. she was straining from 5-6.30ish this morning. Any advice on how i can help her as i cant get hold of my midwife. :(

summer also gets very constipated

try some boiled cooled water hun, it sometimes works for summer and its what my HV advised

now she is older i sometimes put a bit of brown sugar in the water

Maia used to do exactly the same, she will get better.

Try rubbing her tummy in a clockwise direction to release wind, or moving legs like on a bicycle.

Another one is to gently tap her belly in different places below her belly button as though you were walking over her flesh with your fingers.

Ditto what midna said about it being wind if she is a breastfed baby. My BF LO did that lots from about 4am to about 6am every night till he was about 6 weeks old. Then it eased a bit. It finally stopped once his gut was fully working in the past couple of weeks.

Breastfed babies can go days without a poo. Mine goes every 3 days on average now and its always epic

my doc also said you could try a bit of fennel drink

Cooper struggles too he can fuss for hours and seems to strain alot too. He can cry and cry out in pain :( i just give him cuddles sit him on my knee and rub the bottom of his back. xx

I'd go with the boiled water approach - been there done that.. lol. If she was older I'd suggest something with fruit in, prunes/apricots flavoured baby water... and the likes... good poo producers :)
