I've bought a few of these , do you need to use blankets with them too or will this keep baby warm enough?
We have bought newborn sizes but are they really suitable for newborns or are you best using swaddling blankets?

I feel so clueless when it comes to things like this!

No you don't use blankets with sleeping bags. You can get the bags in different thickness, so you just might want a thicker one if you think that the ones you have are not warm enough.

If the bag is newborn size, then yes, should be suitable for newborns :)

We've bought some but will just be using blankets for the first few months so ours are size 3-6 months :)

I'm also thinking of using blankets to start with as I think newborn babies don't wriggle that much anyway, so maybe don't need a bag... But if I just had bags and no blankets I wouldn't bother buying blankets separately just for this... We just already have both.

We have some of both too just wasn't sure what was best. It's little things you don't think of then I feel like I should know.

Thanks ladies

I have two bags and a lot of blankets. I'm going to swaddle at first if I can and then use the sleeping bags :) xx

My son was kicking blankets off and over his face at five days old!

I've got two 0-6 month sleeping bags, is there anywhere that do them from a younger age or will these be ok for a newborn?

I believe from a SIDS point of view the dont reccomend sleeping bags when they are tiny as they cant kick them off if they get too hot. So I personally will be using blankets with holes in (cellular) for the first few months.

Sleepbags usually have a weight guide on them somewhere. For example, I have one that says 8lb+ even though it's supposed to be a newborn size.

You do have to adjust what they wear so they don't get too hot, but they're supposed to be safer than blankets that can end up over their face or just kick off and get cold.

I've bought two 1.5 tog to start with.

Well maybe for the first 5 days then :) I don't know why, I just feel that a newborn will look cuter under a blanket, no idea why :) but as soon as he starts kicking he will go in a bag.

I'll be using blankets during the day when I'm awake watching baby. But overnight I'll be using sleepbags.

I'd be careful about using blankets at first as I know a few babies who then hated being in a sleeping bag after that. My 0-6 sleeping bags were suitable from use once the baby was 8lbs and as my boy was born 8lbs I used them from birth.

You can get newborn ones but I cant think where I've seen them off the top of my head.

As long as baby's head doesn't fit through the neck-hole, bags are fine.

I much prefer them to blankets as DS wriggled under one at a couple weeks old and I woke up to a horrible snuffling sound to find the blanket over his head.
Urgh. Scary. Xx

Hmmm maybe I should rethink this strategy then. The only thing is that we have got a cocoon a baby, it might stop them from wriggling much... Not sure. Will have a think :) I do love sleeping bags generally.

I have 2 x 2.5 together which are suitable all year and 1 x 1 tog which is suitable for major heatwave. I plan to use this from birth unless she ends up really tiny in which case I'll have to use a blanket until she grows into them. My newborn ones are 8lb and over but it's more making sure she is big enough size wise to use safely

I have a 1 tog and a 2.5 0-6 sleepbag. I've also bought an Aden & Anais Easyswaddle which I hope to use to start with, if not then I have plenty of cellular blankets too. Basically, i'm winging it!
