Hey everyone!
Well it's now 8 days on and I have finally got on the PC to write my birth story lol As some of you know I practiced Natal Hypnotherapy throughout my pregnancy and I just wanted to note I do feel it helped both myself and my partner in labour!
Georgia (Georgie) was born 22:13 Wednesday 15th June - narrowly escaping induction at 9 days overdue.
I woke up feeling pretty sorry for myself the morning of 15th June - dreading the induction schedualed for the next day. I decided to find something on the V+ box to watch and have a ball bouncing day.
I started getting pains around 3pm but I was not getting excited as I thought it might just be wishful thinking so I kept on bouncing. By 4pm they were every 5 mins apart lasting for about 30 seconds so I cooked a ghoulash whie I waited for my OH to finish work. When he got in at 5:30 we decided to walk the dogs so off we went walking for about 1.5 hours - although the contractions were not painful I still stopped along the way to breath and relax with OH timing. Back home we rang the labour ward and explained the situation and that I wanted a water birth and asked they hold the pool for me - they did not have any milton to sterilise the pool so we offered to pick some up from Asda lol They wanted me to go in to be checked and if all was well I could go back home to labour for awhile.
After both myself and OH had had a bath we went to Nan's to drop off Mitchell - as we were in no rush we had a drink and were chatting - all the while the contractions keep coming I kept relaxing through them and OH was timing. At 8:15 my waters broke - I thought Nan was going to have kittens she was so excited! lol So we sent OH off to Asda to get the milton and some snacks and I went upstairs to shower my bottom half and ring the labour ward to tell them we would be in for checking soon! Strangest feeling ever feeling your waters go pop by the way!!! Nan made me have a sandwich (Which I was grateful for later!) and when OH got back we trundeled off to the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital around 9:20 and I was checked at 9:30 - the Midwife advised I was 3-4cm and she would rather I got settled in than go home so we decided to go get the bags out of the car. As I got up off the bed I had two contractions back to back and kept breathing and relaxing we explained to the Midwife and the Trainee Midwife a little about Natal Hypnotherapy and that I planned to have a natural birth. I also asked that they speak with OH as it's rather hard for me to relax and breath whilst having questions thrown at me, that we keep the lights low and are left alone as much as possible - all was recieved really well by them and they were really supportive the trainee Midwife also got me a birthing ball.
Things moved pretty quickly after that!
We had only just got outside of the room when I had another two contractions backs to back - they were getting a lot more intense and OH had to concentrate on breathing with me using relax triggers. The maternity part of our hospital has it's own entrance so we were soon moving again and outside. We did not even get down the ramp from the doors when I had three contactions back to back - on the third one I remember saying to OH "I wanna push" just as my body started to do so and we went back inside still with no bags!
Back in the room the trainee midwife was telling me that some women get the urge to push when it's not time. OH helped me down to the floor on my hands and knees and I lent over the birthing ball - Midwife came in heard I wanted to push got the plastic aprons out and said "If I don't see the head by 5 past I will examine you but I think you are going to have a baby pretty soon!" She was close on the time.....Georgie was born at 22:13 with no pain relief (Just breathing), minor fuss no tears/stitches 1 hours and 58 mins after my waters breaking weighing 7lb 12oz
They never got time to sterilise the pool let alone fill it and the midwife was glad she did not send me home as I would have prob of had her on the car park.
They "blamed" me going from 3-4cm to pushing so quickly on being so relaxed during contractions that by not fighting my body it was able to do what it needed to do quickly and efficently. They even thanked us for our birth and apparently I can have a baby every day of the week if I want to lol
I never thought I would say this but....I enjoyed my labour!
Thank you to everyone for all the support thoughout pregnancy - I made some really good friends on here xxx
