Hiya girlies, just wanted some advice...

I had my scan today at 23 weeks (Yipee!!) However the lady said i was measuring 25 weeks instead of 23? huh wtf? What does this mean??

She said i needed to go and have a bloods and a GTT test and drink something to tell if i had gestational diabetes, has anyone else had this and what was the outcome?

It was very confusing to say the least lol!

I was told at 22 weeks that my baby was 95 centile (ie huge, should have been 4 kilos, 10 pounds or more) as it happened when my baby was born she was 2.9 kilos and 9th centile!!!

So I wouldn't worry too much if they tell you at your stage that your baby is big. Having said that, it's good to have the tests done as recommended. Gestational diabetes can cause for the baby to be bigger...

Hope you are enjoying your pregnancy. Good luck

I don't hold much faith in growth scans. I had one at 30/34 and 38 weeks. They consistantly said that baby was about two weeks ahead and to expect a 8-9lb baby. April weighted 7lb 7oz when born at 40 weeks. Pretty standard weight I would have said.

Thanks girlies, guess i shouldnt really worry until it actually happens and by that time he'll be here anyway tehe

I had my 34 week scan on thursday and he was measuring nearer 37 weeks but the sonographer said not to worry, hope that helps xxx

Can i just confirm this has no change on our dates then? These doctor ppl always getting it wrong eh?!

xx

I'd vote they get it wrong rather a lot and if they are talking about "measuring big" i.e. where they use a tape, IGNORE it!!!!! When midwives etc measure with a tape it's pretty much for something else to do at your appointments, it's not an exact science at all and shoulnd't be relied upon.

I was told from early on that I was having a huge baby - he was born 8lbs 2oz, he was tall but not a huge baby in any sense, especially when women today are having 10lbs, 11lbs, 12lbs type babies now. I'd just take what they say in regards to measurements with a pinch of salt. As someone said 2 weeks either side is considered normal anyway so why they are even worrying you about diabetes etc is crazy.

Not that I am aware of. Your baby is measuring a bit bigger hence them checking for GD etc :)

Don't read much into it at this stage though. Growth spurts are normal at this time anyways.

I was measuring really big from about 26 weeks and I had about 4 GTT's which were all normal

I had a few growth scans, the last one was at 38 weeks where they said he was about 9lb, he was born 2 days later weighing 9lb exactly :)

i had a growth scan at 33 weeks in prep for having him , he was ment to weigh 4lbs and he came out a week later at 6lb5oz lol

My son was said o be big at a 36 weeks scan. I think they said 9-10lbs. He was born 8lb1 and 55cm. So, I guess his length had thrown them.

This time....On my scan at around 22 weeks, bubs was on the 90th centile. At 27+2 weeks, bubs was above the 90th centile. At my 32+1 scan, bubs was above the 95th centile. Both baby and liquor would be more consistent with a 38 week baby. But I am not 38 weeks, as my scan at 10 weeks would have been very accurate.

The original scan you have before 15 weeks is very accurate for dates. After that, there can be a 25% discrepancy between the true size and the scan size. Plus, the estimated weights can be up to 2lbs off.

I had the GTT in both pregnancies. Both times has been negative. I am 6ft2.5 though...so never gonna havea tiny baby :)

So Steely, dont worry about it :)

Mines just said baby is avergae for within gestational something or other

I measured big with Lydia, and indeed she turned out big (10lbs 10oz)

so they monitored me closely with Alex and sent me for a gestational diabetes test as well. It turned out I DIDN'T have gestational diabetes, but I was measuring big again. He, too, turned out big (10lbs 1oz).

So as I didn't have GD, they didn't know why I churn out big bubbas - just one of those thing I guess.

Does having a big baby hurt more??

more than what? haha it hurts yes but I have nothing to compare it to

sharne please dont worry! things will probably equal themselves out towards the end...i had a GTT at 16 weeks and the results came back fine. It means you have to fast from midnight the night before, go in first thing for a blood test, take a minging glucose drink then go back two hours later for a further blood test..

then go home and EAT EAT EAT cos you'll be starvin! I'm measuring two weeks ahead accoring to my FH but am reassured by readign the threads on here that its nothing to worry about, think its more to do with my recent addiction to mars bars
