Hi - I've finally got around to doing my birth story! I've had trouble attaching photos so I've subscribed to Tapatalk to see if that works!
Anyway, after a long week of scans, sweeps & daily monitoring (because of scan dates making me over 2 weeks late - my dates made me 7 days over), my waters broke at 7am Friday morning (yay! No induction!). I had an appointment at the hospital for monitoring anyway, but went home as my contractions hadn't started. I was niggly all day & when I went to bed I started having contractions thru the night - they were about every 20 mins & I managed to sleep in between them, so I didn't wake my partner or sister until 7-8am (no point in everyone being knackered!). The contractions had stopped at this point - well, for about half an hour & then they came back with a vengeance!! Every 2-3 mins! I was supposed to phone the hospital for an induction at 8:30 (being 16+ according to them) but phoned them instead to tell them I was coming in & to fill the bath for a water birth! I texted my student midwife (who was following my pregnancy all the way thru) to tell her to meet me at the hospital.
My contractions were coming thick & fast & were very painful. The midwife at the hospital checked me & I was 5cm at admission - oh & I'd had 2 paracetamol at home before setting out.
Anyway, I concentrated & breathed all the way thru - I don't recall the amount of pain with either of my boys, but this seemed hideous! They wouldn't let me go in the pool because of my baby's heart decelerations, so was transferred to the labour room & was continually monitored in the room & a monitor put in the corridor for the doctors to keep an eye on, as I was shivering uncontrollably (normal for me during labour!) - the doctor decided to butcher my hand with 2 attempts to fit a cannula to put fluid & antibiotic into my system, as they thought I was dehydrated & at risk of infection from my waters breaking over 24 hours before. They also inserted a catheter, which was horrible in itself! Especially with no pain relief & trying to breathe thru it all!
At 12:50, I could feel increasing pressure in my bottom, so knew it was nearly time to push. They checked me again & said I was 10cm but could feel a little lip of cervix, but could push if wanted to (thank goodness, or any less it would have been epidural time!). There was no way I was going to endure this pain any longer than necessary, so I pushed like a woman possessed & crushed my partners hand to bits & my sister was desperately trying to pin down my leg as I was still violently shaking! After 35 mins of pushing what can only be described as pooing a massive pineapple, with the burning & stretching, Jessica Sarah Millett was born at 1:25pm weighing 8lb 12oz, our gorgeous little princess & apple of her Daddy's eye.
I had a couple of stitches, as I had a couple of tears that were bordering 2nd degree, and my temperature rocketed (again normal for me post delivery), but had to be kept in for monitoring & precautionary antibiotics for risk of infection. Anyway all was fine and we came home on Sunday evening. And hopefully, here's a few pics if I can get them to upload
