Hi guys, I'm 37 weeks gone and noticed this afternoon that since probably yesterday daytime my baby hasn't been as active as he normally is. Normally when I'm lying down in bed or on the couch he doesn't stop moving or hiccuping, but I noticed today that he's been extremely quiet. I've tried drinking cold drinks or sweet drinks and got not much more than a murmur out of him, which is better than nothing but just find it unusual..

I'm planning to wait until tonight to ring the midwife to see how he is as he moves most at night. I don't feel like the head is engaged (I'm not sure how to tell)but when I went to the midwife last week he was in the right position.

I've read that babies sleep more in the final weeks and don't have much more room to move about but it just scares me that this afternoon all of a sudden I couldn't recall when he last moved as usually he's all over the place stretching and sticking feet out etc. my mum has said that it's probably because I'm resting that he is too but it's usually when I rest he has so much energy.

Am I just being silly or does anyone think I should call the midwife? I feel like if I ring and there's nothing wrong I'm wasting their time which shouldn't even bother me but I don't want to be one of those mums that is constantly on the phone to the midwife x

Hey hun, they do tend to slow down but if you're concerned call your midwife!! She won't look down on you at all and its what they are there for! They will prob call u in and hook you up to a movement sensor and doppler :) nothing major but will def put your mind at rest!! I go on the moTto better to be safe than sorry hun. I'm sure he's just having a lazy day :) xx

noooooo if your worried call its what theyre paid for and they dont mind. Yes movement is reduced later in pregnancy but dont sit there worrying call them you need to make sure. I would and this is my second xxx

hi,never worry about feeling like u might b wasting mw's time, thats what their there for putting your mind at rest.if she's worried she will just ask u to go in to b monitord for a few hours.but they do quieten right down alot near the end,he's probably just got into a comfy position gettin ready for birth.try not to worry 2 much hun,but if u really r getting concerned then dont hesitate to give them a quick ring.hope things r ok x

Thanks guys, I've sent her a text (I'm too shy to speak on the phone to people) I do feel daft but my OH just rang from work and said I'd feel even worse if anything was wrong and I've just said nothing to anyone. Typical now he is moving but it feels really sluggish and usually I'm sat here complaining he won't stay still..I hope he is just being lazy though x

any movement atall is great news! youve done the right thing by getting in touch with mw.x

Defo.. Glad u got sone movements now... Never delay on movement reduction.. They really don't mind bring called 24/7 it's their job!

Did she get back to you? You could ring the hospital if your still worried. x

Hope you hear back from the midwife soon. I'm sure he's fine but it's always worth getting checked out anyway - they'd rather you did too so nobody's going to think you're wasting their time x

No she hasn't got back to me but just had my tea and he's a bit more active now, but I've been eating little and often in the day anyway... If he's not his usual self tonight ill ring the hospital xx

Hi hon, mine is barely moving much at all now I think he's run out of room or conserving his energy, so it can be normal at this stage, however everytime I see my mw including a few days ago she asks me about his movements and she always says ring triage at the hospital if your at all concerned, she says they'd rather see me and everything be ok than me not and the baby be in trouble, she's quite obsessed and insistent about it tbh!!! I think its always best where movement is concerned to at least check with mw or hospital, if nothing else it puts your mind at ease and they are happy to monitor any baby. Better to be safe than sorry and I doubt anyone would think you are timewasting, its what they are paid to do xxxxx

Defo keep an eye on it mws can't stress enough that movements are very important and you have to keep an eye on it.. Glad bubs has perked up now :)
