I'm very pleased to be writing about the birth of my baby!
After a few days of getting contraction pains, I noticed around 6pm Thursday 27th March that I was regularly getting a sharp stabbing pain at the very bottom of my bump. This pain would not ease off it and didn't always come along with a contraction, it would hurt to sit down, lie down, get on all 4s. I phoned the hospital in the middle of the night as the pain was getting far too much for me too handle but they just told me to keep doing what I'm doing - having baths, trying to relax ect ect.
I got up from bed the next morning, Friday 28th March around 6am and went to try and sit on my birthing ball to try and help my pains. At this point I noticed wetness in my pants, when checking it was brown. I was worried that this may be meconium so called the hospital - they advised me to go in and get checked out.
Arrived at hospital who confirmed my waters had gone and they were slightly bloody - but it wasn't meconium so baby wasn't distressed, which was a big relief to me! As my waters weren't clear they decided they would induce me rather than waiting 24 hours to see if I started to labour properly myself.
Hospital was very busy so there was a delay but I was eventually transferred to a bed in the delivery ward and they started to induce my labour and I was finally given some pain relief - gas and air. I was checked and was 1 - 2 cm dilated. After just over 2 hours the pain was awful and I asked for more pain relief. I requested the epidural and they messaged the doctor to come. There had been 2 emergencies so it took what felt like for ever for this doctor to come. But just before he got they I was checked and was 9cm dilated! Midwife advised me it was too late for epidural and she wouldn't give me any other pain relief as it would pass to baby.
At 15:15 I started to push baby out but after a bit they were worried about baby as her heart rate was dropping and when pushing she didn't seem to come out any further. Midwife messaged for a doctor to come and help me, this again felt like an eternity for this lady to show up. They advised they would use a ventouse to help get baby out, so I've also had an episiotomy.
And just 54 minutes after starting to push at 16
9 pm my beautiful baby girl was born!
Hayley was checked over by the midwife the following day and was found to have some marks on her back which they wanted to get checked out. This turns out to just be a little birth mark on the back of her neck and her back (the exact same as daddy!) so nothing to worry about. She also had to have a little ultrasound scan of her heart as they could hear an extra little sound - but this turned out to be nothing as babys hearts are slightly different within the first 24 hours and they extra noise was coming from a value that was just nearly fully closed off - 2 mins after seeing the part on the scan the doctor struggled to find it again as it was closing off that quickly. So it was such a relief to know she's perfectly healthy!
Got discharged and home last night, Saturday 29th March and I'm loving being in the comfort of my own home to settle in with my little family xx
I've probably forgot to write loads here but also wanted to say a massive thanks to all the ladies of this forum who have helped me throughout my pregnancy x
