Now hubby has gone back to work I am finally getting round to writing this!! It's a little traumatic at the end but aren't they all....!!

I went into hospital on my due date on 29th March to be induced because of gestational high blood pressure. They didn't want me to go over as I was on medication to control it.
Went in at 4pm, was put on CTG monitor for a couple of hours, this showed I was getting fairly regular tightenings but nothing major, baby was happy in there. We then waited until 10.30pm!! for a doctor to come and examine me and insert the pessary. I was already 2cm dilated but cervix was still posterior so they thought it could take a while.
Hubby was sent home and I attempted to sleep, however sleep tends to be difficult in hospital (was on a 4 bed induction ward.)
Hubby came back at 8am the next morning, by which time I was getting mild period pains, coming every 8 mins or so but not lasting long, so me and hubby went for a walk round the hospital and climbed lots of stairs! By the time we got back around 10.30 the pains were getting more intense but just got told to bounce on the ball by the midwives! We had lunch around 12 and after lunch I was put on the CTG again which showed contractions every 5 mins lasting around 45 seconds, but they refused to examine me as told me nothing would be happening, so they asked if I wanted to have a bath to relax me, and they gave me some paracetemol. I had the bath which was quite relaxing apart from them coming in and checking babys hb when i was starkers (hadn't lost my dignity at this point!!)
I then got out the bath, waddled back to the ward and about 10 mins later the pains ramped up a gear, I couldnt stand up they hurt that much so after seeing me writhing on the floor in pain they fetched a wheelchair and took me and hubby round to a labour room.
A midwife examined me and I was 4cm dilated, and she tried to take the pessary out. However it was tucked right behind my cervix so she couldnt reach it!! Another midwife tried (all the time i was screaming in pain) and she couldnt do it, so they had to fetch a doctor with long fingers LOL!!! He scooped it out, and then said I was 6cm already, so I'd dilated 2cm more in about 10 mins! I then asked for pethadine as I was in so much pain, so the midwife went to fetch it, came back examined me and i was 8cm!! This was after only about 5 mins! So they said I couldn't have pethadine as it was happening too fast! About 5 mins later I said I felt like I needed a big poo so they checked and I was fully dilated! So I started pushing and 40 mins later little effie arrived, screaming her head off! It was amazing!!
However the drama then started....they had put a cannula in my hand just after she was born to help get the placenta out (something to do with blood pressure why they couldn't inject me like normal), then the midwife gently tugged the cord to get the placenta...and the cord snapped!! she didn't seem too fussed so I didn't panic at this point...although she said I needed to push it out, which I attempted with some feeble pushes, but having just squeezed a baba out there wasn't much strength left in me!!
They then decided to massage my tummy to encourage it out....and then it all went a bit fuzzy! According to hubby my blood pressure dropped to 60/30 and blood started pouring out of me...I lost a total of 2.5 litres. I was barely concious and just about remember them taking my clothes off me and putting me in a hospital gown, then hubby said the midwife hit the emergency button and about 15 people ran into the room. I had to have a general anaesthetic as it was so urgent, and was taken to theatre where they manually removed the placenta (ewww someone had to put their hand in to get it out!!). I was lucky really because if they couldn't get it like that I would have had to be cut c-section stylee, I would not have been happy after a normal birth! The positive thing was that they stitched me up down there while under so I didn't feel that being done!!
Anyway I don't really remember coming round from that, the next thing I remember is seeing hubby holding Effie a few hours later. I was put in the high dependency ward overnight as i had 3 units of blood transfused as well as a lot of other things. This meant I couldn't hold Effie which was horrid, but I had a midwife just dedicated to me and she was great.
They have said that my placenta was well and truly stuck, and its likely to happen again if we were lucky enough to have another so I'll be closely monitored during labour.
Sorry its a long one!! Pic to follow of the little lady xxx
