Avatar help

Sorry to be thick ladies but trying to upload an avatar! I put the photo link in and click upload and it just says upload of file fade! Can anyone help?

I always save my pics and then upload from the computer? It has always worked for me - post a link in ask a moderator section of the forum if it doesn't work this time.
