So happy to be writing this!!
For about a week running up to labour I was having niggly pains and reallys strong braxton hicks.
Wednesday came, I was a week overdue and starting to feel utterly miserable! I had an appointment the next day to discuss induction but really didnt want one because as I had a section previously they would only let me try a natural labour for a few hours then it would be straight for another section. Luckily, I never needed the appointment!!
To try and cheer us up a bit OH went out and got a chinese take-away for tea. I was only about halfway through eating when I got a really strong stomach cramp. They hadnt felt like the pains i'd had before, thought it was maybe the runs on the way
I nipped through to the loo and as soon as I sat down I felt a wee gush and there was a splashing sound. I looked down and there was some fresh blood. More trickled onto the bathroom floor. It gave me a bit of a fright but then I realised I was finally in labour!! Thank god!!
That happened at 8.50pm. Almost instantly I was getting pretty painfull contractions that were about 2 minutes apart. I phoned the labour ward and was told to come in straight away as it was fresh blood. I phoned my mum to come round and watch ellie, she was here within 5 minutes and we were on our way. The hospital is only about 4 minutes drive from our house but I had about 3 contractions in that time so I knew it was happening, and it would be soon!
When we got to the hospital we were put in a little side room, it was horrible and my frist thought was please dont let me give birth in here!!
I suddenlly had a huge cramp that did feel like the runs!! I was on the toilet for ages because every time I felt ready to get up another wave of pain would come over me. I finally got back to the room and on to the bed and by this point the pain was getting unbearable. I asked for pain relief but had to be checked first to see how far I was progressing. It seemed like my midwife was taking forever to get things done and she kept leaving the room which was starting to annoy me!!
It was now about 10.10pm when I felt the strongest urge to push. I told the midwife( I dont think she believed me) who finally got round to examining me. She ran out of the room and got the ward sister, who took one look at me and just said "delivery" in a really stern voice!! I asked what was happening and she said ther was still a touch of cervix but it wouldnt be very long till baby was here!! I asked again for pain relief but it was too late, I would have to use just the gas and air.
The sister came back with a wheelchair and I was put into a delivery room.
I was given gas and air, which I have to say is the best invention ever!!! I stared to feel really bad for OH as each time I got a contraction he looked like he was gonna cry!! He just looked so helpless.
With each contraction the urge to push was getting stronger and stronger. I was checked again and was fully diallated. The midwife broke my waters. It was now about 11.40 and was finally allowed to start pushing!!
I struggled a bit to start with as I was so tired from fighting against the pain. OH really helped me though, I kept getting sips of water and he was so encouraging!! I was finding it difficult not to shout through each push, the midwife actually told me off but I couldnt help it!! At about 11.55pm they were able to see the top of her head. I was aiming to get her out before midnight but hadnt bargained on the pain I was about to get when she was crowning!! This made me tense up a bit but somehow I gathered the energy and with 3 or 4 more pushes at 12.10am she was here!!
She was delivered onto my chest and had a good cry for the first minute or two. Then she just stared at me and OH for ages!! I fed her for a good hour then was cleaned up and It was OH's turn for a cuddle.
We were put up to the ward at around 4 and then OH had to go home so it was just the two of us. She was a bit chilly so the midwifes said skin to skin would be best for a bit longer so I just lay with her on me till morning time.
I got home on the friday morning and so far so good!! She feeds every 2-3 hours and is very contented!!
I'm so happy and quite proud of myself that I did it naturally this time!!
