J have done medical secretary work and have a friend who is one. I dont have amspar though.

Im a Team Secretary (Band 3) and work for the NHS. I would like to move onto become a medical secretary but dont know whether the best thing would be to get my AMSPAR so it gives me a better chance at interviews???

I wouldnt know about that, Sorry. I got the job through a recruitment agency. There are courses and diplomas and things that you can do to give you a better chance so maybe you could look at your local colleges for them.

I was a medical secretary for 5 years before I started my nurse training and then temped as a medical secretary all the way through uni but never did AMSPAR! My hospital offered me a medical terminology course which I did and that really helped when it was all new to me. Its quite easy to pick up - just go for it!
