Are there circumstances to wean before 6months?

Our surgery has a gp who is useless with kids but great with me then an amazing gp who specialised in paediatrics before joining our surgery. Now tho she is on maternity leave :( she is awesome xxx

That's extremely handy Orion, you're so lucky! I've been at 3 different practices and all of them were poor at best so I'm very envious!

My GP practice is excellent. Same day appointments, fab doctors and nurses, the baby/pregnancy clinics with HVs and midwives also do afternoons there on certain days. I am really lucky.

I booked an appointment for headaches recently with my usual GP, he phoned to discuss me seeing another doctor in the practice who was more appropriate. It was totally up to me who to see. Wonderful place.

I wouldn't say there's bickering? Honestly, this whole thread reads to me as mums who believe weaning at 6 months is best for numerous medical reasons and mums who wean pre-6 months are taking offence.

I'm sure there are links for both sides of the argument if one looked hard enough.

I also don't see anyone being judgemental. As I said in my previous post, I don't understand or agree with weaning before 6 months because I wouldn't take the risk of my child's digestive system not being ready. But that is my opinion on how I want to wean my child. Others may feel that the risk is negligible based on their own child's behaviour.

Personally I think when one gets defensive over a decision, one knows that perhaps that decision is the wrong one for whatever reason. For example, I got defensive over ffing ds1 because I felt it was the wrong decision even though it was the best decision at the time. Others may disagree but that's ok, we don't all have to agree all the time!

Couldn't have put it better myself x

I got a question tho. My babies beyond the weaning stage and wasn't an issue for me but curious as to the whole must be able to sit unaided before weaning. What about if they can't do that till 10 months. Just curious lol

My daughter didn't sit unaided until 10.5 months old. We tried her in a highchair and she'd slump to one side. She was prem as well (36 weeks). We decided to start weaning at 7 months old (as she was a month early) and had to feed her in her bouncy chair (propped against something to stop it bouncing. We did traditional weaning (purees followed by increasingly lumpy food).

With my son, as he was sitting etc., we tried at 6 months on the dot, but he pushed all the food back out!!! Left it 2 weeks and tried again and he was fine. I never thought to try early weaning, we just fed him increasing amounts of milk (11oz per feed just prior to weaning!).

I've had HVs berate me for not using BLW. One even said my son wouldn't be able to work out how to chew if I didn't do BLW :eh:

Both are fine... and my daughter did finally stop slumping in her chair, although my son is now doing it at teatime as he recently (wrongly) decided to drop his nap!
