Im really cross with my dentist!

I went a few weeks ago and they said I needed at least 2 fillings but couldnt have them on my maternity exemption due to them having mercury in them.

So they told me I needed private ones at £60 each: £120! I went home to think as she said if i didnt i risk severe pain.

Anyway since chatting to people Ive heard about another filling, a glass inomer (sp?) one thats safe and lasts till after the baby's born and is free on the exemption.

I rang them back and yep they do it so i made them book me in.

HOW RUDE though! I had to research and wasnt told about this as they were more bothered about their money than patient care, I think its disgraceful!

Be warned, what a rip off !

we're all having dental work!!! I had a filling yesterday, they dressed it or whatever you call it, so that they can do it after Teejy is born. I had chicken chasseur when I got home and now have a chewed gum as I didn't realise I was eating my face and not the chicken with the anaesthetic!!!! It's true what they say though - humans taste of chicken!! :rotfl:

yeh there trying to rip you off hun, like most dentists lol

Im getting my root filling done in the morning, but when I went to my dentist he said I could have the Mecury filling done while pregnant, he did mention something about mecury fillings during pregnancy, but that its quite safe and nothing will happen to the baby/

Now im scared about getting it?

well Id question it as both my dentist, doctor and midwife told me not to have mercury as the tooth being filled has a wound in which mercury can enter the blood and even if small amounts is a risk, we're not even meant to eat swordfish as it has mercury in it so be careful

Good luck

hi every one, i feel really wierd now, as i have NEVER had a filling

i've had a two teethtaken out due to overcrowding of my teeth, a fixed brace a retainer and i've got a venner and a bridge in just for appearances but that's it!!! :D

i feel so much better not having a brace or anything in though,

have any one's gums started bleeding yet? 8)

my teeth are absolutley fine a bit sensitive but no bleeding! lucky me ehh

mine bleed all the time, I look like a vampire sometimes!!!

mine as well, when I spit out its all ways red, like pure blood lol

I'm sure that the gap between my two front teeth has got bigger! :?

well ive just investigated on the gov dentists website and they basically said its up to the patient as there is no evidents the small amount of mecury used in fillings causes any harm to the baby and that its entireley the patients choice to go with the dentists advise but that major work should be avioded where possible incase of causing distress to the mother, resulting in causing distress tyo the fetus.

so i think ill be a ok!

I've had mercury fillings whilst pg, 3 times by 2 different dentists.

The last one she was ok with doing, the only thing she didn't want to use was anasthetic so she drilled in from the side and skimmed the nerve  ,very clever and I didn't feel a thing!

All will be ok JW don't worry.

A lot of the time the risks are pointed out as so many people are scared of being taken to court just incase, as mentioned in another post a lot of the time they cannot say whether bad or not as it's just not ethical to test the results on humans :D

and marymary..I've always had my mercury ones free whilst pg, rip offs!!!

ooooo i think it was me who has said before its just cause they cant test these things on pregnant women ''just incase'' - how knowledgeable am I!!
