Hello!

I'm a bit confused/worried.
I had my 12 week scan on 02/11. I was told everything looked perfect and they took blood samples, etc for all the screening. They also told me to book an appointment with my midwife at 16 weeks.
Today I received two letters, one saying the blood test were 'Low Chance' for downs syndrome and that no further tests are required at this stage and the other letter an appointment date (three weeks from now) at the hospital for an ante-natal appointment (it says with a doctor).
I called them up to check if that was the same as my midwife appointment as I was told I had to book that myself but they said it's a different one.
I was not aware I had go back to the hospital until my next scan at 20 weeks.

Is this normal? Could it be there's something wrong with the screening?

I'm very confused!

Have you got the red book? If you turn to the inside of the last page, it will tell you when to expect appointments.

Your bloods will be discussed in the next antenatal appointment with doctor, sounds like maybe something has come up in the blood, however it is concluded that the chances for downs are low.

Why dont you call the hospital to book an appointment and take it from there?

Sorry this didnt happen to me as everything was normal and it was all routine appointments.

Please don't stress, thats why the doctors are there for you xxx

It could just be this is normal for your area. Unless you’re otherwise high risk (eg high bmi, diabetic etc). The fact they said it’s an antenatal appt to me suggests it’s just routine. But either way I’m sure there’s nothing wrong x

Thank you girls.
I hope it’s all OK. I guess if it was something serious they would not wait 3 weeks to tell me.
It could be because of my weight as I am on the high side of BMI but I have already been booked for an dietitian appointment!

good luck hun, let us know how it goes xx

It may be the BMI pushing you into consultant led Care rather than midwife led. Worth checking xx

Normally you see a midwife at 16 weeks after the 12 week scan.
There could be a factor on your booking in that is pushing you towards consultant led, you may have this appointment and be signed off.

Was just going to ask this...

Would your care be consultant lead for any reason? Mine is, because baby is from ivf and also because I had a loss at 20 weeks.

So I had my 12 week scan yesterday (with downs test) and I have my consultant appointment next week.

Hope this helps xx

I'd agree with the opinions on here that you could end up consultant led with a high bmi. I'd phone them and ask them what's going on if it's stressing you. The midwives will probably tell you x

In my area if your BMI is above normal at booking then you're automatically under consultant so it could be the consultant. It's nothing to worry about and the appointment is likely to be short unless you're booking in for c-section etc.
